Wow, I had posted the following and it was moderated down to "troll". It must have ticked off the freedom-hating socialists to hear the naked truth. ------------- Income inequality is not bad, as long as it doesn't result from force. "Fixing" it by having government redistribute wealth at gunpoint is the real travesty.
Remember government == force when you get down to it. So big-government liberals (and conservatives) are violent people.

Because that's what consumers demand. They'd rather have features than durability, probably because by the time the gadget breaks, there's a better, cheaper one available.
Why does Walmart import tons of cheap Chinese goods? Because customers want them.
Democracy is the most vile form of government... democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention: have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property: and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths. -James Madison
That is why our country was founded as a Constitutional Republic where FREEDOM, not democracy, was the ideal. Unfortunately, we are drifting away from freedom towards democracy, which has given us a bigger, more instrusive, and more corrupt federal government.
1. The number of underground casinos/cardrooms/sportsbooks will grow. 2. Independent bookies will see increased business. 3. Organized crime will get in on the action. 4. Overseas banks will get more money at the expense of US banks. 5. People will be swindled by overseas business offering to hold money for internet gaming.
The pro-freedom approach would be to let fiber owners (telcoms) charge whomever and whatever they want to use the lines that THEY OWN. If these telcos start charging content providers, the cost may be shifted to users, but new companies would start laying more fiber to grab some of the profits, and the increased competition would bring prices back down in the long run. Plus, there'd be a lot more line capacity out there, which would not happen with "net neutrality".
If it were up to this guy, bookstores couldn't charge different prices for different books--that would amount to abridging "freedom to read" by his logic.
Freedom of speech means you can speak freely. It DOES NOT mean that you are entitled to be provided with the means (internet, microphone, megaphone) to speak.
Also: at the 3rd paragraph, this guy admits he's a socialist, so his credibility to talk about freedom is GONE.
Congress has no authority to regulate this. If a particular state wanted to pass such an act, and they were within their constitutional limits to do so, then fine.
The better option would be for customers to only deal with companies who have a legal agreement to disclose breaches.
How about a constitutional republic (hey, that's actually what this country was founded aa). Unfortunately, we have sunk into a democracy (which James Madison called the most vile form of government.)
Under a CR, money wouldn't buy special favors, because Congress would be strictly constrained by Article I, Section 8. So they couldn't make laws banning games, publishing copy protection workarounds, DMCA, etc.
You're exactly right. Most people don't even have HDTV. Plus 95% of HDTV owners probably can't tell the difference between 480p and 720p. At least not enough to spend hundreds on new equipment. 10 years from now when people's progressive scan DVD players die, they'll buy an HD one, but not sooner. The format war will just solidify good ole DVD's place.
...is the IGNORANCE showed by the judge and often by the mainstream press surrounding this issue. Neither seems qualified to talk about, much less resolve this issue. They are f---ing clueless, and it's so frustrating to me and to all of you who have been following this story.

Production companies will just sell TV episodes directly to the consumer as soon as they are completed.
Accounting companies commit crime, so let's pass legistation to reward them with more business. Unbelievable.

When asked what form of government the founding fathers had agreed upon, Franklin replied, "A Republic, if you can keep it".
Unfortunately, we have not, we have decended into a democracy, which Madison called, "the most vile form of government".
Do yourself a favor: look into the difference.
