Hmmm, not off the top of my head. They should hire a shitload of cobol programmers to bill them for 30,000 man hours, then upgrade the bioses. That should get them above the 2000 mark.
I admit Windows was very unsuccessful at hiding its guts using a GUI, but I think the Mac does a reasonably good job.
Back to the car analogy, you may want to hide the engine under the hood, but PLEASE, don't weld the damn hood shut!!!! The mac fails because it is very hard for the user to see or control what is really going on behind their nifty UI. Windows fails also, but for another reason. You can get at some of the engine, but it is missing half the spark plugs and is held together with duct tape.
I am going to sue Intel and the entire Linux development community for ruining my social life. Oh, I started playing with OpenBSD a while ago. I will sue them for the same reason. I don't seem to have as much free time as I did before delving deep into computers. Therefore I will sue sue sue!
Actually, with NT5 (WIN2000) NT will use WDM (Windows Drivers Module or something like that) just like win98. So one set of drivers will be good for windows platforms, while another set of drivers will be good for the rest of us.
The development community then has to decide whether to support your extensions (when you come out with version 2 of your hardware) or your competitors'.
Instead of just supporting your competitors because they are the only ones that have released the specs. Sound blaster compatability has not hurt creative at all. Infact it has helped them build a huge name for themselves. If 50 companies clone you, and claim "FooBar Compatible", you are getting free advertising from 50 companies. These companies would be your competitors anyways, so why not let them advertise for you?
Oh yeah, this is great. I can see disaster coming

Cool, I guess first contact is going to involve cheesy porno jaz music and a grotesque alien life form trying to mount the first lady. I hope this will televised live.
Hmmmm.... There are infinite primes, but not infinite trees. They can't record who finds all the primes.
If the universe is infinitly large (is it?) and there is a small chance that each star holds sentient life, then it follows that there must also be infinite planets with inteligent life. You can't record all them either.
Oh wait, My assumption of infinite universe would mean that we could use infinte planets to grow infinite trees to record the infinte names of people who discover primes and alien life forms. I guess I just defeated my own argument.
I thought they got all their code given to them directly from HELL as part of Bill's deal with Satan. He just hires people to do evil on earth as his part of the bargain.
No, but you can enjoy drugs without linux

Personally, I can't breath for 3 days after smoking a joint. I cough up blood for about a week after anything involving knives.
I am very tempted to buy a palm pilot just so that I can port nethack to the platform. Anyone want to help?

sgi isn't championing the non-microsoft way of life any more. they have released a intel line running WinNt. Its a shame. Bloody shame.

QED.
