Chicago used to be covered by a mile of ice. The earth is still warming. Anybody think that a hundred years of CO2 emissions have had ANY effect on the temperature of the earth? Bueller? Bueller?
Here's what we know (for sure) about global warming: Increases in atmospheric CO2 cause warming. Man has been increasing the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. The Earth has been warming. However, we cannot link any of these together in a cause and effect relationship, because the Earth has been warming long before man started to emit CO2. The last ice age (10K years ago) is still melting, and the last 1.5K year warming trend is still on the upswing. Water vapor has a more significant effect on warming, and we don't even know if more clouds increase or decrease warming. It would be a HUGE negation of science for the EPA to say that CO2 is a pollutant.
John Gilmore already pushed for this to happen. Didn't get enough traction. However, maybe he didn't have a good enough threat model? Maybe now there is one? Here's John's URL: http://www.toad.com/swan.html
In my nightmares, I disassemble hijackers with my cane. Given that I don't need a cane to walk, and I'm studying the martial arts, this is not out of the question.
Have you noticed that ANYTHING can be excused by appending the words "because of the terrorist threat"?
"I had to pee on the floor" "I left my homework at home" "I didn't know she was underage" "I was drunk" "You have to tap his telephone" "I had to post this"
Stupid fucker. The child pornographers will just pick on a non-alt newgroup to invade and post on, but the rest of us will lose alt. Moron politicians -- they know nothing about the Internet and should leave their dirty stinking hands off it.
Wow. You totally ignored my point. I didn't write that just to watch my fingers waggle over the keyboard. I wrote it to educate people. Obviously I failed you. My bad.
What AT&T should be doing is trying to keep the P2P traffic entirely on their own network. The most expensive thing any ISP can buy is generalized Internet bandwidth. And yet P2P traffic could just as well stay within their own network, as the content for any one transfer is the same everywhere.
I still my HP-16C, bought on employee discount in 1983. I've changed the batteries, mmmm, maybe three times? It works every time I turn it on. Serial number 1024.:-)
Throw a four AA-cell pack with a Nokia N810 into a package with a real (full travel) compact bluetooth keyboard, and you'd get most of what you want with almost no engineering expense.
Corporations make the world a better place by pleasing customers and taking their money. Corporations that DO NOT make the world a better place have no customers, lose money, and go out of business.
Except those subsidized by the government, of course. This subsidy can take many forms: direct payments, a monopoly, or a protective tariff.
Um, do you realize how Sam Walton (of WalMart) became rich? By selling inexpensive stuff to poor people. The rich don't darken WalMart's doors. So the economy you claim to want is the economy you've already got -- you just don't recognize it.
Employees are free to own their companies. They need only save their money and buy their company's stock. The fact that employees *don't* do that is a sign that employees in fact DO NOT want that which you advocate. We call it "revealed preference", as opposed to your "expressed preference".
You seem to hate profits. But profits are the signal (to yourself) that you are doing what your customers want. They're the signal to your competitors that you're doing something better than them. Profits are what lets you know that the resources you consume are smaller than the benefits you create.

Uhhhhh..... you DO realize that bicyclists exhale CO2, right?
I wonder how much faster dope grows in the presence of more CO2?

Oh, and as I recall, the project foundered on not having a working DNSSEC.

I would be very surprised if FedEx has not made plans against this. It's kinda obvious.

I've not forgotten.
Reportedly, djb wears all black, not all-aluminum. If I were you, I'd start wearing all black also.
Everybody else is being patched to the level of security that we djbdns users have always had. Not to be *too* smug, of course.
djbdns consists of a separate server (tinydns) and resolver (dnscache).
There will never be another hijacking of a plane with americans on it.
Exactly. That's why all four planes were hijacked in the same hour. Flight 93's reaction ("it's them or us") is now the default.
WTF? The Multiple Venereal Disease is going to be replacing license plates? What's up with THAT?
Would that be swivelling around the like Eye of Sauron did when Frodo put on the ring on the rim of Mount Doom?
I'm just askin'

Kids these days, what do they know? Get off my lawn!

It's the bin-packing problem, which is NP-Complete.

Without profits, you know nothing.
