A little research will show you numerous reports of how much those two resented the shrinking of Presiential power during that period, and their resolve to reverse the situation if given a chance.

Now let's see what Wikipedia has to say about your figures for the Netherlands:

But let's take your (bad) example at face value. It turns out Arizona is about 300K square kilometers in area, while the Netherlands is only 41K square KM. If we could play together it would have gotten played more too. As it is I still play a bit, but only solo when I don't have time to play one of the MMORPGs.

I really don't understand this talk. I picked up the preorder to get in the beta for $10, so I played it from beta. It definitely had technical problems in beta, and they weren't really fixed until the first patch *after* release. So I can see where it got itself a bit of a bad name. It also required more RAM than any other game out at the time (1.5Gig on Vista).

However, the game itself *always* rocked. Once the lag problems and crash bugs settled down, it became an awesome game to play. Its the most fun game I own ATM. If there's another action-oriented RPG out that's better, please don't tell me about it. I need my job. :-)

It also does a lot of innovative things. In particular, I'd love to see the rest of the genre pick up its context-sensitive potion and skill use. It takes out a lot of annoying control fumbling that I always go through in other RPGs.

Personally I think their business model was just flawed. It worked OK for a traditional game, but if you want to pay to keep servers up and do incremental development, you really need incremental income from everyone. They had some extras you could pay monthly for (eg: being a guild master), but not enough to make it worth it for most people. Certianly not enough for me.
