  1. Justice Is A Crime on Crime Lab Scandals Just Keep Getting Worse (slate.com) · · Score: 1

And why the heck is a three year sentence issued for such a radical and harmful criminal in the lab work? Or worse yet does this imply that all lab work done in all law enforcement agencies is suspect and should be a matter for appeals courts for every conviction whether for murder or drug crimes?

  2. It Is Coming Faster And Faster on Robots Teach Each Other New Tricks (technologyreview.com) · · Score: 1

The displacement of humans in the work force is accelerating and still nobody is getting any public attention as to what to do with excess workers. One thing is obvious in that capitalism can be destroyed by technology. No wages means no buyers in our current system. Right now like the Richard Pryor comedy routine about who has got the damned money. The government says it is broke. The banks and wall Street whine about how poor they are. the public is suffering as well and small business people are in shock but not in awe. One conclusion is that America can not afford itself. But the real conclusion is that the notion of a free market and capitalism is inherently inferior and unworkable. The capitalist system can not stand up to technological advances. We will be forced to pay healthy pay checks to get people not to work or fight over jobs. It will do no good at all to give them miserly pay checks as they will have no money to buy products and keep businesses alive unless they are well paid. So we now have no choice other than to enter into an era of some kind of socialism with a government strong enough to keep people from cheating and keep businesses in line. Imagine some machines showing up in a robotic truck and building you a new home for free from start to finish. After all machines can mine and process raw materials as well as actually building the home. So the home is yours perhaps with a fee for the electricity consumed by the machines while working for you. So how much is a free home worth if others can get free homes as well? this radical shifting of values and attitudes will be very stressful for many people while others will adapt easily. There is even humor in all of this. Imagine a red neck sitting around spewing hate against brown and black and Asian people suddenly not so worried about job competition from them. So as he drowns in his evening beer he curses the damned robots instead of other races. Technology can really shake up our world and it is going faster and faster. Imagine more change in the next ten years than we have seen from 1875 until the present.

Yes that bank was located in Palm Beach Florida. The bank ignored a summary judgement from the court and the individual showed up with the Sheriffs office in tow. All of a sudden the bank was able to pay the money that they claimed they could not pay that same day. The sheriff gave the bank one hour to either pay or turn over the keys to the bank to the lady. They were not going to allow the bank to move the cash or anything else out of that bank. The lady was owed a small sum due to a bank error and the bank refused to give her her money back. It was roughly $1,500 dollars. That lady could have kept that bank sealed or sold off the contents of the bank easily. I do wonder about the status of the cash and safe deposit boxes inside.

  6. The IRS defines who is a contractor and who is an employee. A contractor is not under the supervision or command of an employer. For example if you agree to be a delivery contractor the hours that you work are up to you, the clothing you wear is up to you etc.. The most usual case is in phone sales or so-called telemarketing where the employer provides a desk, a phone, leads or hours of access to the phones or regulates the break or meal periods of the so-called contractor. If any of those things exist the person is an employee and not a contractor. contractors may also be required to carry a business permit as well as business insurance and may not be allowed by local government to work from home. If a business is sued the very first question that will be asked is to show me the contract. Less than 1% of businesses that use the false label of contractor can produce a written contract. And if you wish to earn money answer the wanted ads and turn over every business to the IRS that wants to label you an independent contractor. You will get paid for these names. Also your state and county may reward you as the false claim also cheats Workman's Compensation and Unemployment Insurance and finally they may also be cheating the Federal retirement laws for employees that work for several years. The false claim of independent contractor is a form of fraud.

And we do not need individuals deciding when it is or is not safe to fire a gun of any type in an area with other people or homes near by. 8. Both Government and Society on Does Government Science Funding Drive Innovation? (wsj.com) · · Score: 1

If we went back to 1920 and looked at Germany we would see a very rigid government and very rigid social structure both of which placed a strict burden upon youth to succeed. As a consequence we saw a German nation rapidly adopting the best notions of mechanical science and engineering that found the US sorely wanting in 1938. In 1941 we dared to enter that war after beefing up our military and we still were not up to matching Germany in the hardware of war. Their technology enabled them, a small nation, to take on the US and several other major nations. My point is that if government as well as the community demands with real severity that our youth get a no nonsense education and be willing to suffer to get it that we will advance our technology by leaps and bounds. We have seen Japan with their severe treatment of school aged youth shine bright in industry for the last 40 years. China and many Asian schools are producing scholars with ferocious abilities. It reached the point that many universities had to limit scholarships to Asians as American scholars simply could not compete at all and virtually all scholarships were going to Asian students. The laws and social traditions of a nation have a great deal to do with how fast technology and industrial abilities grow.

The first problem is that the tests should be created in such a way that the test can not be "taught" to the students. The subjects should come as a complete surprise on test day. Secondly it is vital to identify sub standard schools. Obviously nobody wants to accidentally move into a suburb with a lousy school system and it sort of compels businesses to insist upon a high quality, local, school system. Third the no child left behind junk needs to vanish. Should teachers aim at the sharpest kids in a class or cater to the slowest learners? Societies basic needs call for the effort being slanted towards the very best students. those without academic potential need to be diverted into trades types of training such as cooking or learning to paint houses or whatever. As it now stands the presence of slow students is doing great harm to better students. And frankly the reason why the student is slow is not a consideration. I am not saying that the slow students are lesser than faster learners at all but I am saying that a nation will prosper according to the quality of its best students.

They always do and with these super storms we all are in danger. So it is not just oil reservoirs but storms that could easily collapse our nation as well as other nations. And it gets worse. I seriously doubt that unless homes and businesses spent millions to harden themselves that new homes could even be built that could hold up to such storms with any confidence at all. And here we are with nothing at all being done to really protect our nation. We have denial over rising seas, global warming and the hazards of extracting too much water from the ground or fracking. People need to understand that such a strike by a major storm would take down the insurance industry which in turn would bust the banks as well as Wall Street leaving the masses with no pensions and no replacement for their dwellings or businesses. We have a very real chance of a financial holocaust triggered by such an event. And no having gold coins tucked away will do you no good at all. You simply can not eat gold or silver.

A short four or five mile drive will tend to cost $20. without the tip. That drive may last only five or ten minutes. Drivers are setting minimums such that they refuse any fare under $20.. They also want to charge extra for using a charge card. The industry is a pit of corruption and the rides are absurdly expensive. Technology is going to catch people that feel secure in the nonsense that they pull off currently with little fear of getting caught.
