It is partisan to its core. Half of the republican party is a clone of the Chamber of Commerce. These are the very people who we need to be kept away from government completely. Oh and just how do politics play a part? One way is to claim that you are out to save the taxpayer and force cuts upon programs such as law enforcement thus insuring that money to go after white collar criminals does not exist. So the lower my taxes crowd on the right wing also fully supports corporate crime.
The catch is that millions of people who live near the coastal waters were damaged and continue to be damaged by the BP spill. Do you really feel comfortable eating seafood from the Gulf of Mexico? Do you think that tourist dollars are not still being lost as some people fear the food and water on the gulf coast or simply can't enjoy the beaches knowing that toxic chemicals are still in play?
Remember the Exon Valdez? The fishery near that spill is still highly damaged and has not returned to anywhere near a normal condition. Either one of those incidents is enough to forbid oil from being extracted or shipped over any body of water. Said flat out oil and coal need to be shut down completely as fuel sources. If we manage to control birth rates we can lower the population to a point that all of these wretched industries are no longer tolerated. Population causes pollution. Our lands were not designed to handle the insanely high numbers of people now living upon them.
It sort of blends in with the privacy problem. I once drilled into an abandoned gas well with an auger truck by accident. The tank had a lot or rotten gasoline left inside. The gas station had been knocked down a couple of decades past. Without a database of the last owner of the station and the insurance company that covered the property as well as the company paid to demolish the station and its insurance companies the burden fell upon the taxpayers to clean up the old well site. In other words a long term, persistent database of all aspects of that property going back 40 or 50 years would have been valuable.
I was drilling a large hole to install a new traffic pole as the road had been widened. Part of that gas well was actually under a new road.
The other issue is that when these oil companies take money time after time for clean ups and defraud the taxpayers why are they not smacked with a RICCO Act charge and the companies not seized by the state? Ongoing, organized crime is the very reason the RICCO act was created.
As far as security goes I would not be shocked if more intense spying is not applied to individuals who take precautions against being spied upon. Look at it from a law enforcement view or national security point of view. We can name one fellow Joe and another fellow Sam for purposes of demonstration. Suppose Joe is seen to use strong encryption, avoids using smart phones or cell phones, pays cash always and quietly rents a room from a private home owner. That alone may send out signals that Joe needs a hard look. Sam on the other hand is welded to his smart phone, never even uses a password and is wide open to scrutiny in every area of his life. Guess which one will attract interest. Sam's flaws are known. Sam's negatives match the negatives of almost all people in the area. Joe, conversely, seems to have no flaws and no real data points in the system. Any smart agent or cop will want to find ways to define Joe and frankly it won't take much effort at all. In the past very unlikely people were employed as agents. A man might make progress with a very pretty, very pretty, young girl who he would never suspect is employed by the police department as a professional spy. But these days tiny cams and recording devices are rather easy to insert into a suspicious person's environment. I have seen this stuff in action and knew a young girl who worked in a spy like capacity for the cops. She was inserted in a community and under the age of twenty and played the role of a hippie like youth in rebellion which in fact she sort of was. But her pay check was through her spying efforts.
Daddy looks at his useless 18 year old spawn who is glued to the TV while slopping on the couch. Daddy is well aware that no place in the world really wants anything to do with his teen. Daddy also has a big ego. Daddy knows damn well that any school that is willing to get the brat out of his home is going to grab 50K a year. And daddy also likes his money. So here is what daddy will do. Daddy will send his worthless teen to a school that gives him high grades. After all if the useless kid flunks out he will be back on daddy's couch again. Daddy will talk to other parents with useless spawn and find out which glorious, so-called, college will keep the brat happy and give him credentials that will probably assure some job that will keep the brat from ever living at home. If things get bad enough daddy will give the school about half the price of a new gymnasium as insurance that his spawn can do no wrong. Once the spawn has credentials he can progress to a position of authority over others where he inflict his useless self upon the lives of people that actually know how to get a job done.
It is not just the education system that is smoke and mirrors but the entire society is hollow and largely not worth the air they breath.
Anyone accused of using a computer for illegal purposes now has a perfect defense. After all if credentialed experts believe that computers are controlled by the numerous people of several governments then there has to be hard proof that the doer was the one who took those actions on his PC.
In counties that have large school systems you can bet your last dime that organised crime has infiltrated many departments. That last 6% of so of funds that just can't be pinned down by audits is available for criminals and in billion dollar school systems that 6% is a huge ongoing pay day.
Here is the way it actually works out. Somebody decides that efficiency saves money. A county with 200 schools will open a building and trades department so that each school does not have to hire out maintenance work. Also new construction and contracted repairs will be handled by a central source. That will involve a huge fleet of maintenance men and vehicles and equipment. Because of the shear size of such departments any audit will in itself consume millions of dollars and virtually cripple a maintenance department for months. It also means that organised crime will target positions and individuals with planning and maintenance departments, Purchases and contracts can be steered to include Mafia owned or controlled vendors.
I have seen first hand the vast waste caused by this issue and can tell you that it even reaches deep into local governments and can even reach out and control law enforcement and investigations as the sheer size and complexity of the issues make elected officials very shy about upsetting such a huge apple cart. Not to mention that anyone who allows himself to be seen as vaguely aware of the nonsense will limit is career in such a system.
Straight up! Getting high or drunk is for cowards who can not deal with life. Society needs to get a lot less tolerant about abuse of substances. If you feel a need to get high or drunk and are not satisfied with the normal joys of life get help. It is not the action of use of a substance that is the problem it is the desire that is the real issue. The same is true of people like those who molest and kill children. The courts make a joke of it all. Obviously if you have a desire to molest or kill children you are insance. It is a person's desires and not their actions that define mental illness in the anti-social types.
How old school of you. There is no reason to surrender at 82 and with increasing abilities of modern medicine most of us will probably last to well over 100 years of age.
Let's hope that his level of COPD is something he can live with comfortably. If not help may be on the way as medical breakthroughs seem to be increasing in effectiveness for those with enough money to get the best care. Entertainers can be real life savers as people who are suffering often survive due to some pleasant entertainment while they wait to heal. We owe these people a lot more than most people realize.
A bad cop can do a lot worse than ruin your day. Wilton Manors Fl. had a cop who transferred to the area near Tampa and it was found out that he was tying young women to trees and using an ax to butcher them after pulling them over.
And how about the same for business and labor. The salesman that lies, over charges or the laborer who hides and is a slacker would be caught every time. That would probably bankrupt the nation as most businesses are criminal in some aspect of their behavior. Most tradesmen are dishonest as well.
If cops enforce the worst laws with equal vigor society would have to alter the laws so that sanity prevailed. As far as traffic tickets go we could reduce nonsense tickets by making certain that we only allow fines low enough that the city loses money on every ticket written. On the other hand we might want to elimiante bad drivers by making it easy to get caught for every tiny violation and making certain that the rich paid far larger fines than the poor.
A while back i was fishing on a public pier and an old, poor, fellow caught a fish at least two inches short of being legal. He was keeping the fish. I asked if he wasn't worried about the games wardens and he said no, he was not. He went on to say that if he was caught and thrown in jail he was better off anyway so he never worried about breaking laws.
Scientific method requires complete reproduce ability. Yet we crossed an invisible threshold in chemistry when certain reactions were found to follow different paths even though tight control of variables was in play. The idea that reaction A could yield result a,b or c sort of forced a rethink on scientific method. And then we have sciences like astronomy where controlled proofs simply can not take place. Astronomy relies upon observations and reasoning rather than experimentation as a rule. Yet astronomy is a real science.
Nonsense! Arguments are not proofs. Show me one frog that is not a product of evolution. The creationist will rant that not every single step in the process of evolution is available in artifacts and therefore evolution can not be proved. Yet they can not produce every single detail of the creation or any physical evidence at all. Simply put creationism is bullshit.
This is a disgusting scam that attempts to remove all protection from the actions of some very evil businesses. When an agencny like the EPA takes action the science is based upon compilations of complex studies and agreement among scientists. To try to completely document every minute detail in all of those studies would totally cripple the agencies. As an example we could not hope to apply rigid scientific standards to prove that smoking cigarettes casues cancer or heart disease. It is not because we don't have perfect certainty that tobacco kills but documentation will fail simply because cigarettes do not kill every single user. Therefore the consequences of cigarette smoking are not reproducable as they vary. What laws like this would do is unleash all kinds of misery upon the public. And consider why we allow the tobacco industry to sell product at all. The seller knows the product kills and ruins lives. Yet they insist on selling. And when we limit the sale of cigarettes in America they simply export ever greater quantities of the product.
Considering the difficulties in developing Chinese and Japanese typewriters and the difficulty programming in pictoral languages English text looks rather nice. If we had a formal language such as we see in chemistry or mathematics or physics the learning curve and retention issues would be worse than any syntax nightmare in English. Oddly the difficulty with applying meaning to terms in a formal language gets worse when less terms are in play. Imagine it is 1870 and someone hands you E = M.C.squared. How many years would it take a person to figure out just what the equation described? Formal languages reduce ambiguity but carry a translation burden that is nightmarish. I took a good chemistry course in 1961. Thank God i don't have to take a similar course in 2014. Chemistry is off the charts in complexity although I will say in 1961 doing molar chemistry with a slide rule was challenging. Some of the required proofs ran into five pages and the teachers insisted on every step being perfectly recorded.
I have ranted myself blue about a total failure of people to catch on to what is going on. Maybe it is because people are so frightened that they do not want to notice the problem. We are about to replace humans in the work arena almost totally. There will be less and less jobs available. In itself that could be either wonderful or a total calamity depending upon how we adapt our beliefs and policies to a new situation. Consider the situation much like the rising sea level issue. Most people simply do not want to confront what rising seas will do to our society. It is semi-deliberate blindness.
Again the answer is simple. We simply must pay people well who do not work. No, I do not mean we should elect them to congress. After all congressmen do nothing and are well paid all the time. But in order to spend we must have money. Therefore we must put money in the hands of all people. Businesses will pay taxes that equal those checks. Now one odd effect is that the highly skilled and the unskilled will both be replaced so the new situation is that they are now equals. Being equals their pay should now be equal. Another oddity is that a robot that can work on a roof driving nails may be more expensive to create than a robot that can act as a school teacher, lawyer or doctor. We may begin to realize that people with manual skills are more advanced than people with intellectual skills as the difficulty in replacing them with machines can be measured in the relative costs of replacing them with machines.
This obviously means that anything vaguely resembling capitalism will be displaced in society. And if we learned anything from Darwin the failing of capitalism and the first industrial revolution proves an inferiority in that doctrine. The US and Europe have both become much more socialist as the decades roll by. I suspect that Australia has as well. Even China has shifted towards socialism and away from communism. So the second industrial revolution is now under way and we will see a drama in which the round eyed devils build machines to try to compete with machines built by the slant eyed devils. That will be true even on the battle fields of the world. I can only hope that we use a very gentle and kind method of keeping the unemployed healthy and happy but considering the US in the past I sort of doubt it.
Although they are paddling and not quite flying yet our large mouth bass love baby ducks. I wonder how any baby ducks survive as they are so easy a meal for the bass.
Watson might solve a lot of various types of problems but its human overlords will make certain that no real progress is made. Just as human politicians and business leaders can never mention or deal with certain issues Watson will have restraints built in in order to prevent offending humans. For example Watson will never bluntly announce that birth control is the key to almost all other issues. Crime, violence, mental illness, addictions, disease, pollution and economic strife all rest upon us having too large a population. The obvious key is to strictly limit who can reproduce as well as the total number of children allowed to be born. . Any machine or person who tries to make that point clear will immediately be shouted down. Yet that one issue is the key to almost all issues. Reduce the population by half and you will reduce pollution by more than half. If you think we have an energy shortage just how short would we be with half the current population? Why do wars occur? Wars occur when a land can not support its people and they invade other lands to compensate. Over and over again it is made clear that excess population is the problem. Yet what politician dares to mention such a thing? And worse yet the world goes on some sick form of auto pilot when people fail to do what needs to be done. If elected officials can not deal with excessive population then a dictator likely will take power and death camps will be put in place. Or we could have plagues that reduce the population severely. The point being that only allowing a small percentage of young people to produce one baby is by far the most humane and sane way of doing what must be done. In Germany it was Jews and Gypsies. In America it might be black people and illegal immigrants but one way or another someone will point the heavy finger and exterminations will become a reality. Even sicker might be the idea of exterminating another nation and moving a great portion of our public to that "new" area. Brazil or Argentina would be rather easy to capture and kill off the current populations. You can bet there are world leaders who actually think in these terms right now.
Unless I am in the dark a Cruise Missile requires no human intervention once launched and can seek a higher value target if one becomes available. So what is new about a drone being able to do this sort of thing?
The less soldiers we can put on the battle field the better in my opinion. I would far rather automated soldiers took care of the tasks of war. It also means that America will be forced to be first in robotics and automation or perish. That can work out nicely for the American public.
All of the school shootings were in gun free zones. A happy population does not have people running into buildings and killing people. Murders are a symptom of large numbers of people being very unhappy. Drug and alcohol use and addictions as well as new mental health patients are a measure of what people think about their lives. Society must do better.
I disagree. Our rights to self defense and decency have been castrated. They have made gun rights a bad joke. The idea that a right requires permission or a permit or odd things like keeping a pistol hidden at all times is just the edge. Beneath that edge are the absurd restrictions governing when one can use a gun. Americans go glassy eyed when asked to think but consider this: Right now there is a knock out game going around. The idea is to see if you can knock out an innocent and unsuspecting person with one punch. Several deaths have already occurred. The point being that we have great, real world, proof that a single punch can be fatal. Yet even in stand your ground states you may well be put on trial if someone is throwing punches and you shoot them. Mr. Zimmerman is proof of this. We need a society in which balling up your fist and stepping forward is just cause for a lethal reply. Our ancestors were more in touch with reality. To them a man riding a horse while drunk would be excuse enough to shoot them. Cursing in front of gentle folk might get you shot as well and in much of the nation no fuss would occur when one shot such trash. On the other hand modern folks think guns as hidden jewelry are ok as long as they are never shown or used. If it is so illegal to use a gun what does the right to own or carry matter. The real issue with guns is that sometimes the wrong people get shot.

Yes! Mr. Manning and Mr.Snowden could probably work wonders as employees of a private, data storage facility.
