While most/.ers hate censorship, I think it's a necessary part of everyday life.
So if i were in your shoes, this is what i would do: (please excuse any old/already implemented ideas)
Use the "karma" idea and apply that to calculate how many moderator points the user recieves. Implement a posting quota (10 per main thread is reasonable for the average user) and make it grow exponentially with better karma.
The worst users and the AC's should get a minimum of one post/thread.
Make "Sort highest scores" the default way to view comments. This will keep most people from seeing the bad posts.
>Why buy a new OS if the old one does everything >you want? simple... just up the version number, make a few interface changes... and people will flock to buy the upgrade.
Well if you need another type of sniffer sniffer, try neped. the apostols had this thing a long time ago. instead of this approach they actually send out something which only promisc network stacks respond to. not the sneakiest approach, but it works.
The metaphor still works today, but it's a little different. More like: power is in the hands of those who are feared.
Now assuming the FBI isn't the corrupt force that we believe it to be and that they actually are looking out for our "national interests," this means that the people get the power. This is the point of a democracy. So we aren't really loosing any power, just sacrificing direct control of it for indirect control.
Yea, I looked at jabba.org and I have something very similar in development. Except my focus is on crypto and it's still in early alpha. (And it's nothing nearly as big as the jabba project)
If anyone wants to help out, drop me a line at larry@lar.penguinpowered.com
I really dont think so. At the rate pc competition is going, it seems that the pc prices will drop into the 400 range where the consoles are. Wouldn't you rather have a machine that does games AND porn?;)
I have GTE and My friends in pac bell area (like one or two suburbs over) get it for half price at (guaranteed 340/128, uncapped) while i get only 128/64:(
bastard monopolists
everyone goto www.handsofftheinterent.com!!! lets bring in some real competion!
Now why dont you sell this computer to the U.S. so you can feed your people;)
I dont think we should haveta pay for ip's
on
IANA Deploying IPv6
·
· Score: 1
especially when they're so plentiful with ipv6.
All we're doing is paying them outrageous fees to keep our names and ip chunks "registered" in their db. If it was a one time fee, then I wouldn't be against it. But it's a yearly fee.
How bout this solution: every person is alotted say 50 ip's at birth along with your social security number or so. Corps can buy ip's in the current system.
I know this wouldn't work with ipv4 because of technical difficulties, but i think the government should step in and say enuf is enuf with these ripoffs.
Yea, I realize that this is never going to happen as long as these corps keep "donating":(

take a look at the article in linuxtoday.
there's a surprising amount of fixes. (smp races, ext2fs problems, driver problems)
this one's worth the time to upgrade
mp3 encoder eh? last time i checked mp3 encoding was too patented to really do anything worthwhile.
but i may be wrong.
actually ati cards under linux have been known to run faster than under windoze because ati wrote crappy drivers.

Screw ms... this is a better use of your time.
Or go help out the mozilla guys...
my 2c
Basically ms is asking for your help for FREE!
yes, this will help, i guess, the hoards of win users... but who cares!
MS is making money off of YOUR WORK!
Even the beta testers for Win98 ( or was it 95) got free copies of Windoze for their work. In this deal you get squat!

So even though I dont use AOL (well aim sometimes) Im affected.
IIRC, a while back 2600 printed a list of words that you guys scan for. How long are those records kept?
Or is that a "no comment"?
computers will get easier to use as oses target to the mentally challenged ;)
;)
Plus there's a HUGE motivation to use a computer:
can you get lots of porn on a N64?
I really dont think so. At the rate pc competition is going, it seems that the pc prices ;)
will drop into the 400 range where the consoles are. Wouldn't you rather have a machine that does games AND porn?
Would you like someone else using your work to make millions?
>BO2k isn't concealed inside another program..
I heard it can be. You can deliver it with
an installer.
But in the virus sense of "concealed within", you're right
Cheap S@#$!
He was talking about a budget solution. (I'm currently looking for something similar)
Any decent laptop will cost 1000+.

You refer to class conflict. That's Marx.
And no one has a "solution" since there isn't a perfect one as long as human systems aren't perfect.
whatever

But it's not like one day we'll have the window manager built into the kernel or something. Linux is a very modular OS.
