If you had to do massive re-engineering, it was your fault - not theirs. You should realize that they don't see the big picture (how could they?) and you should plan accordingly.
You have to spell out in extreme detail exactly the specifications for what you need. You need to write pseudo-code for them. You need to write function stubs. If you don't do all this, you aren't going to get what you wanted.
And yes, at that point, we could write the whole thing ourselves and just get it done here. But try explaining that to your local PHB.
Its woth noting that in ASP.NET, the default method for saving the session state key is to put it in a hidden input field on the form. This is ideal because it doesn't use cookies. If for some reason this doesn't work for you, you can configure it to store the key in the URL (although this is a security problem), or use cookies.
To change the method for storing session state, you don't have to write any code. You just tweak a parameter in the XML configuration file called web.config. This is something that Microsoft got right...
Thats not what I meant... What I mean is render the HTML offscreen (imagine a hidden IE window for example). Then do the equivalent of "File.. Save As... *.txt" and convert it to a.txt document. No images, no fonts. Then run the filter on this text. Bingo!!! Any images will be (and should be) ignored.
If you try to keep up with HTML tag tricks, you will always be one step behind.
Why not have your spam filter render the HTML in an offscreen buffer (using existing browser/plugin API's), than pull the straight text out of the rendered document and run the filter on that?
Okay, I just want to make sure my opinions are "slashdot-correct" before I go around expressing them.
We hate buymusic.com, because it uses evil DRM, is that right? I want to make sure. Cause it seems like itunes.com uses DRM also. I guess it's okay though because that is an Apple thing. I would never accuse Slashdot people of being hypocrites, of course... I just want to make sure my opinions are "slashdot-correct". There is no way slashdot people are hypocrites.
or will it keep flying from site to site before it settles somewhere 'safe' like Sealand's HavenCo?
Why would need an offshore hosting solution? Bittorrent files are just index/key files right? Same as eMule, eDonkey, etc. No central host required. Here one day, gone the next, so what?
I'm amazed those people still had jobs. What were they doing, anyway?
Software Engineer, AOL/Netscape 1999-2003 : Contributed bloat and bugs to massive failed project. Managed to continue to get paid for years beyond useful function. Perfected art of staring at monitor and 'zoning out' while pretending to work.
Not true. Most every job posting says "H1B Sponsorship Not available". The fact is that sponsorship costs $$$, does not save $$$. Most employers won't pay it because they don't need to.
One area of software development that will never be outsourced is projects for the U.S. Government and military. Get a security clearance and you can write your own career ticket.

Why dont we just shoot this stuff into space? There are 70,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 Stars Out There, you can't tell me there is no room for this stuff.

Not when you just send a letter and demand $3500 to walk away. It's called legalized extortion.
No, actually when you transfer a file with someone else, the protocol DCC connects directly with the other client, not through the IRC servers.
Sounds like they took a page from DirectTV's playbook. And why not? It appears to be working. But how are they going to stop international users?
Not all stuff that matter is about "nerds". Have a little respect for acronyms that were around before you were.

Ok, so how do you prove that you didn't use something?
Apparently, investors aren't worried about it.

Didnt you know, talking about SCO is not allowed on slashdot anymore
Its the 4th one, and getting better every year.
I thought the TCP/IP stack has been pretty solid for awhile. After all, it should have been in pretty good shape when Linus stole it from BSD.

Time machine? Nothing offensive happened in 1984 except big hair bands and parachute pants.
Where do you work?
In still more news, stupid posts on Slashdot are up 100%
Score : -1, Redundant
In other news, it was discovered that the Earth is round and fire is hot. Film at 11.
