MSNBC has already fired off a story about how a breakup would be a Good Thing(tm).

All the more reason the just fine M$ for a few tens of billions of $$$, and give it to the competition.

Do ya think she'll be sent to jail for threatening violence. I stopped looking when I got to the gun pics - I don't want to sent up for conspiracy to threaten violence.
On the news last night, I heard that the guy in Hawaii who (allegedly) killed 7 people was sent to "Anger Management Counseling" because he once kicked an elevator door while at work. Looks like it worked.
The NSA is keeping track of you. Think you can hide behind "Anonymous Coward"? Think again. The NSA KNOWS WHO YOU ARE. You can run but you can't hide. I for one am willing to contribute a little extra $$ to the NSA for them to come and get you while you sleep. You will wake up in a cell in Iraq?, Moscow?, Colombia? You won't be able to tell since your cell has no windows. All you know is your guards don't speak English. You will be taken to the torture room several times a day. You will confess everything you've ever done in your short wretched life. They will cut your pecker off with a dull knife. Then you will be returned to your room in your parents' house where you will try to continue an otherwise boring existence.
to graft the camera and transmitter onto a real fly, then figure out how to control its brain so it will fly where desired. Also, you could splice into the fly's optic nerve so you don't even need the camera.
As a long-range goal, they could genetically engineer fly DNA to grow the camera and transmitter.
"Berkeley System Distribution". Someone ought to compile a complete list. I don't think I've ever seen the correct one in one of these kind of articles.
I just checked out www.uswest.com (see my previous reply to "Bandwidth Constraints...). They call their VDSL service ChoiceTV.
BTW, I also noticed they have an ADSL sevice called Megabit 256, which offers 256k. Is that a misleading name or what? ("59 minute cleaners is just the name of the shop. Your clothes will be ready next week.")
USWEST is deploying VDSL even as we speak (not quite 60 mbps, more like 25). I doubt if you will ever be able to get 60mbps fully dedicated to data to your home. Most of the bandwidth will be used for video, with the equivalent of an ADSL line for data, and a little piece of the BW for POTS.
I think the 1st posts should be moderated to something less than -1 (maybe ~0). Some posts are more off topic than others. In fact, I've seen some pretty interesting ideas which have a score of -1, which I would have missed if I set my filter at -1.

I admit I haven't checked into nanotech very deeply, but every time I see it mentioned I have the same questions.
The review mentions that nanotech is building machines up atom by atom (or molecule by molecule). Is anyone working on going the other way, i.e. creating something that can replicate itself, only slighty smaller. THen that one can build yet a smaller version, etc, until you get something really small?
These articles always mention that these machines can replicate themselves, i.e. on machine copies itself, then two machines make 4 copies, etc. It seems that if you wanted to build a machine to do something useful, other than just copy itself, you would need to spend a lot of effort to include the copy functionality. I mean, do you want a simple machine that can repair a heart valve, or a more complicated one that can repair a heart valve AND copy itself?
Just because the technology is available doesn't mean people will use it. Gas-guzzling, smog-spewing SUV's are the fastest growing market segment these days.

WinCe an entirely new meaning.
Why would you prefer VxWorks over Linux in critical applications? It began life as BSD after all.

I once wrote a scary story for my English class in the 7th grade. It went like this.
The authorities deterimined that I was a threat to society, so they locked me up and threw away the key.

At least Saturday Night Live didn't do a Blair Witch take-off.

To be redundant, KDE. When I installed the KDE package, it installed an .xinitrc file, so when I ran startx it started KDE.
I then installed the gnome package. I am still trying to figure out how to run it.
Hey, you stole my idea. When I get some spare time I want to use a graphics program to graft the yellow Tux beak onto the BSD imp.
BTW, don't real penguins have long black beaks, not short, stubby, cute yellow ones?
$19.95/month for 256k service. I believe PacBell is charging $49, and it's much higher on the East Coast (don't know which RBOC).
"I guess they put in a bunch of new COs for this service all over town."
Actually, they are probably using "Fiber-To-The-Curb" boxes to the neighborhoods, then existing copper from their to the homes.

Oops. Hey, what IS a portable way to get the largest negative integer?

BTW, I'm looking forward to getting an aircar.
I hope he's not correct about this one. If he is, then we can look forward to eternal smog, oil spills, traffic, etc, etc.
I guess you could say *EVERYTHING* was created in the Big Bang, since it's still happening.
So now we can look forward to ignoring Coke machine alarms in addition to car alarms?
How about putting cold spray vending machines next to the new Coke machines?
Jimi, or Jim(my) Morrison?
Bears a strong resemblance to "The Face" on Mars.
