You're right. In some cases that would work fine, but not all I guess. Some times re-posts are good though, because I might miss them the first time =) In fact that's the case almost every time somebody cries about an article already being posted.... I almost never remeber seeing an article being posted on the subject.. I guess some people remember pointless facts better than I do =)

I remember a slashdot article on this subject, but I think the other article was just talking about Damian Conway needing sponsors; this one is talking about him getting sponsors. (or what not)

The more I think about it the more I wonder. Is every slashdot editor supposed to read every slashdot article ever writen to figure out if something has been posted before or not? That's a lot of work.

I saw somebody complain because he was pretty sure that an article was already posted about 2 years ago.. Hmmm.. ok? Like who's going to remember that? Sheesh.

    Never again I tell ya.

Oh and installing updates off their website? woohoo another reboot (for each server!) bah! I guess it's good job security for anybody who likes being an admin though.

I think you got part of that right.. But.. I think what Slashdot is saying is that RedHat can release a fix for critical bugs the second they are found where as Microsoft will make you wait 6+ months for a service pack that fixes a lot of bugs at once instead of releasing same-day fixes for critical bugs.. Oh and Microsoft likes to charge for their fixes some times :) (On the other hand.. I have seen Microsoft release critical bug fixes pretty quick some times, but only if there is a lot of bad press about them..)

I'm not all for a new GUI or anything.. I think if a new GUI takes an existing GUI and makes it better/easier etc then why not? But if it takes something simple and makes it too complex then it was a waste of time and people will just end up getting pissed.

What res0 was saying leads me to believe that "skins" should not be a feature of netscape because if his mom some how accidently changes the skin she will be confused and not know what she is doing.. That's about stupid..

Oh and so what if Netscapes new gui isn't standard? What if the one they came up with is 10x better (once you're use to it) Should they avoid using it just because it will confuse NS4 and IE users at first?
