lol. I've been a lurker since KDE3 first went stable. I heard about slashdot from a banner in tux racer. I just recently created a profile. This whole thing feels a bit like when KDE4 came out and they threw KDE3 into the garbage can. Even though KDE4 was hardly a replacement at the time.
So, what is the deal with Chromecast anyway? Does it track what you do and what you watch? What am I thinking? Of course it does. And if it doesn't now, it will. Bah.
I have found this to be true on several PCs. Particularly video. In my experience (and it pains me to say this), it's just so silky smooth compared to 7. The way they tried to cobble together the ModernUI and desktop was a HUGE fail though. Ever try to copy and paste the username and password for a VPN connection? I haven't tried with 8.1 but in 8, it couldn't be done. You could paste the username, but when you tried to copy the password, the stupid thing would slide off the screen. Bring it up again and the username field would be blank. NERD RAGE!
Wouldn't be easier to put a security guard on each flight and instruct them to shoot to kill? Bullet holes? How about special hatches in the floor so they could just drop the MFs from the plane? Projectile extremists destroying property and endangering people on the ground? Tasers. Give every adult on the plane a taser. Boom! Done! Sure, there will be a few injuries every year. But, it would be a much better experience (and perhaps a little fun) for everyone. You would really need to hang new signs though. Like: "Please, do not taze the aloof parents of crying babies"
For the love of god, could we please try something else? The TSA is truly embarrassing.
I'm all for faster internet connections, and I feel sorry for those who deal with shit connections but, do we really want one of the largest advertising companies in the world owning "the roads"? I would hate to see google buying out and taking over other ISPs. Not everyone is cool with the way they make money and this is their wet dream. Faster, but at what cost?
OK. So they have data on us. People need access to this data to provide the service. The problem is that the more people that have access to this data, and the more servers and devices it sits on (with unknown security plans keeping it "safe") the more likely it will fall into the wrong hands. THAT is the issue. The fewer places this data is stored, the better off we are.
I'll just point out that Snowden did NOT damage the U.S. reputation in any way. Getting caught for your actions, getting caught committing a crime, the loss of reputation is not due to the one who catches but for the one committing the actions.
The behavior of the US damaged it's reputation.
This. All day long. So many people get confused and want to kill the messenger. They should be thanking him.
Google doesn't want to admit that "do no evil" has been revised.
Exactly. They are cashing in on the fact that most people think they are still "cool". To me, their slogan became a joke shortly after their IPO. After that, "do no evil" for the long term became an impossibility.
Finally, some restrictions on the mining of "big data". Some people have a HUGE problem with its collection and storage by greedy, sleazy, single minded corporations. Not to mention the fact that government goons can store and search that data however they please. Privacy is a human right. If you are willing to use it as currency to purchase shiny, you are part of the problem.

Now that's sarcasm!
Fuck you, slashdot, for taking away classic.
Why so wasteful? With a coreboot port these things would be damn nice little computers. Not for gaming or workstation tasks; but perfectly pleasant.
I wasn't aware of that project. I guess if you could nuke the OS that comes with it, it would be kind of cool.
I can't wait until Google starts going downhill, and all these little spy boxes get thrown away.

This needs to be modded up!
...everyone takes a photo of their naughty bits and sends it to the police station...
Great idea!! I'll do that right now... Snap, tap tap tap... Man, that was crazy. Did you... Guys? GUYS?
Snap a photo of a passerby...
Doing this is what makes you a Glasshole.
...8 performs better.

They must be scheduled for a gig on Earth soon!
I have 32 gig in my home server. Oh wait, nevermind.
More delays that make conversations frustrating! Woohoo!
Well, at least he admits his madness. His reality is fantasy.
"Reality" is the only word in the language that should always be used in quotes.

Why in the fuck weren't the passwords hashed or something? Why did a third party need the passwords? Grr

There, get that song out of your head. :P
on our own people is a great first step. Next, we need to respect our allies in the same way.
So it's illegal. So I guess someone's going to go to prison for the crime then.
They have become above the law. Everyone in the world should be afraid.
Surveillance Watchdog Concludes Metadata Program Is Illegal, "Should End"
Any rational person with half a brain would come to the same conclusion.
Wow, what a dick move. No more recommendations for you. Buh bye.
