if the kernel was released in the next few days:). it's gotta be really close. another thing i found humorous. they were bitching about netscape 6 for being "a piece of shit", but if netscape 6 had taken longer to be released they would have bitched about it being vapor ware. so they have nothing good to say?
if their not happy with the state of the kernel the source is there, as is the status of the bugs. they could spend the time and energy fixing the bugs insead of complaining... but thats not fun. it's much more fun to complain about something than to spend the time and effort to fix it.

think about the future of our inflated economy.
on
CS vs CIS
·
· Score: 3
ok right now cs and cis people are being hired for the same money, and that is because the market hasn't yet reached its satuation level. many people (myself included) think that the economy in its current state is inflated, and it's due for a down turn.
when the down turn, and possibly a recession, happens the saturation level for the market will decrease. at this point layoffs will occur. now do you think they are going to layoff the people with more education?
the computer science education isn't just more math-they are teaching you how to solve problems logically. the math is a tool. in your job you will be posed with many problems, and your education should prepare you to solve them.
One last idea: plug the UPS into a UPS into the wall. Mua
that may have been what the manual from the cheap ups you got a best by for $40 have said. if you ever buy a nice ups, it should clearly state in the manual _NOT_ to do this-it does more harm than good. kinda like wearing 2 condoms at the same time.
that is exactly what i thought when i read the story. i'm sure he's a nice kid, but i think some of the questions (especially the ac's) can do more harm than good.
i know he's only going to get the top 10, but if he comes here he's sure to see some of the crap. i'm sure he reads/. and knows what to expect (goat sex and all), so i hope he doesnt take things too colsely to heart.
Okay, sure, when it's released in the *NEW* kernel it is GPL'd. What about
before it is released? Huh? It isn't GPL'd before this. What is stopping IBM from
releasing it and claiming it is their own creation?
this would happen once. at that point it would be on the front of slashdot, and ibm would loose all credability witht he linux community. so, ibm will have to decide if having control of that driver for that printer that makes 3 diminsional plots in linux is worth it.... i dont think it would be.
You shouldnt have to worry about the standards outliving TeX - Donald Knuth designed it what that in mind.
TeX (and the LaTeX frontend) runs on about as many platforms as linux.
the output of a tech document is quite frankly spectacular. you just dont get this kind of quality with the word processing programs that are out there today.
many people thing the learning curve high, but this isn't necessarly so. my advisor says that LaTeX has a one paper activation energy. ie it takes you about one document to learn most of what you need to know to get things done... and once you use it you will find it hard to use anything else in the future.
i would tend to agree with you. it will depend on how they got in really. if they broke in due to a porly maintained server, then i would equate the crime to the manager of nordstroms leaving the keys in the front door... sure the crackers are criminals and should be blamed, but the manager should be fired.
as much as i dislike ms, they cannot be held responsible for mismanagement of their software. if the software was faulty (ie there was a bug and they didnt notify their customers), then hopefully they will be held responsable (although their eula probably obsolves them of that). when the eula bails them out the IT person who made the decision to go with ms should be smacked around with a stick....
but it's really too early to lay any blame on anyone but the crackers...
why not sue amazon? i would think that storage of cc numbers is part of their one click shopping patent thing. if egghead were paying royalties to amazon, and their system failed... then they could be held accountable...
well only in america, but then again you could only get a patent like that in america.
And I don't really care much about sed, awk, or zsh (great tools, but If I don't use them, why do they have to be installed)
i dont think you could get away without installing sed and awk... you may not use them directly, but i'm sure that the system scripts use them. a simular argument would be: i dont need that engine in my car all i really use is the seat, steering wheel, and the peddles.
i prefer sleezeball for the same reason.

it's a trouble shooter page. what it says is that if you cannot get your 3.x app to run in 3.x you will not be able to get it to run in 2000.

i think this is the part you missed. are office 2000 and the version of visio your are referring to windows 3.1 apps?

ms bob epitomizes ms's commitment to security. if you typed in your password incorrectly 3 times in a row it would ask you to choose a new one.
