i work in a research group, and we only have one windows computer for viewing word documents/printing using the fancy printer functions/etc. the others in our group dont really understand linux. i installed/configured the workstations, and after about 15 minutes they were using it just fine...

it is important that people realize that there is a difference between a crime and the tools used in a crime. there are many rights granted by the constitution that are being taken away by legislation under the guise of protecting the people. fundamental rights like speech, right to bear arms, etc are being blamed for problems that already have applicable laws.

the readers should take note of this and see how it applies to them. sure you say:
"i dont need guns so make them illegal" or "i dont use computers in libraries, so the filter software doesn't bother me"....

what you dont understand is that if your rights are taken away slowly then you are less likely to notice. the next right to be taken may be speech-then it's too late to complain.

Clearly corporatism only has its own greedy profits in mind when it makes decisions. We need to have people in control that represent OUR interests.

we do have these people they are called "consumers". companies are directed by money, and consumers are where the companies get their money. (note: i am not advocating microsoft-just pointing out that consumers are responsable) if the population in general is unhappy with something a company does with product A, and this unhappyness is enought to offset the inconvienence of not having product A, then the people will not buy product A. if product A is not selling, the company will stop producing product A or fix the dissatisfying part of the product.

the only thing you can hope to do is educate the people out there and show them that there are alternatives. if enought people see the alternatives, and the alternatives dont exact more trouble than they are worth people will choose the alternative.
