i used this for a while back when it was called opennt. then (i believe) the microsoft nazi's put the smack down and they had to change their name. its pretty neat. i believe it came with ksh and csh and some other neat utilities.
If I had purchased the device from Netpliance directly, then yes, I would most likely be bound to them for the service as per their contract agreements.
well i ordered mine from them (phone not web)-the guy told me that i would be signed up for the service automatically. i asked him if i could cancel it and he said that i could, but i would be billed for the first month. so after shipping and stuff that came out to about $170.
i even asked if there was a minimum number of months i was oblicated to and the sales man said that there was _NO_ contract. This was on sunday (the 19th) and the webpage mentions monday the 20th. may be i got in just in time.
if they give me any shit about service cancellation after i get it i'll probably report it as fraud to the better business bureau.
Also note that any future big dollars in general Internet retailing are likely to come from companies that also have a physical presence in most states, such as WalMart, and will therefore be required to pay sales taxes without any new laws.
This is true about walmart... at least it was. My roomate works in their internet engineering "team". After walmart online came "online" they realized this about the taxes and sold the online store to another company (that does not have stores in all 50 states). Now they dont have that nasty sales tax problem.
A quote from De Palma from the website: "I'd never directed science fiction before, so the problem of shooting outer space and shooting a planet nobody's ever seen before gave me a whole new canvas with which to work. I tried to avoid all the cliches of science fiction movies and to give a whole new look and approach to this fantastic story."
http://studio.go.com/m2m/html/genesis.html I guess nobody told the poor schmuck. NASA probably made the whole thing up.
This is a pretty cool web page that will do what you want if you are sitting at a machine with a web browser but you dont have the aformentioned ps2pdf utility.
While this sure looks like it was fed into a typewriter and typed over several times with lowercase, smallcaps, and uppercase, upside down and not, it looks like gaps were left by someone who knew that when he got to that exact spot later, he would need a letter there.
150 years ago? I doubt it was typed. This was most likely typeset in a press of some sort. This would explain the space above the inverted letters giving them the apearance that they are subscripted.
The latest version of php-Version 4- uses the zend engine. Zend has an optomizer and a cacheing option. I've used php3 and I am pretty happy with it. php4 is still in beta, but its almost done.
Consider this. If he had been running the seti@home client, the resources would have been put to better use. Maby that is what he ment by wasted resources... and not some silly status thing. In this case the resources would have been wasted. Perhaps he really wishes to put his extra cpu cycles to a good use and this frustrated him.
besides, i don't want to have to get an optical out card for my mac.
oh im sorry. i made a mistake when i said _had_ to have an optical output... what i ment to say was something like this:
while you can still record using the analog out most soundcards have. you do have the _option_ of recording digitally with an optical cable....
once you write your audio cd. i want you to stick it into a discman, turn on the anti shock protection and shake the crap out of it for a minute or so while you play it.
i know your saying that you dont jar your player for that amount of time, but just having the antishock stuff turned on really blows the battery fast.
i have been thinking about getting a portable mp3 player for a while. i to have been unimpressed with the various features of the ones currently on the market (primarily the memory requirement)
my solution: buy a portable minidisc player/recorder.
the media is pretty cheap (2 bucks per disc). you can record over the discs a seemingly infinite number of times. mine can play for upto 40 hours without a charge. you can record digitly using a fiberoptic cable and a sound card with optical out. hoontech makes one that is supported underlinux with alsa and oss.
well sortof. interix was mentioned before but i thought it should be restated:

that should weed out the AC's and the general outlook is much better.

or he could wait until others find out if it is hackable (befor the 14 day thing is up) and then make the decision based on their expirences....

And just how do you go about giving a PHP script root access?
compile php as a cgi and turn on suexec in apache. or do something really dangerous like running apache as root. either should work.
john
The interface is alot like matlab. Also the help commands are alot alike. IMO If you doalot of matrix manipulation, you should check it out.

why dont you create a ramdisk and put your stuff on that when the computer boots up. then serve it straight from memory?
just a thought.
john
surely you know that a client could be written for 9x easily? there is ultimately no security there.
the reason no one wants to write the DOS software for windows is simple... if the machine crashes it cannot attack
