Count me in too. This whole thing is ridiculous -- karma is worthless in a corrupt system.

I saw one of these things working at the Sydney IT Expo a few weeks ago. So it's definitely well beyond the vapourware stage. However, it's not primarily a game box, so it won't compete with the Xbox in that area.

"Enkephalos" is ancient Greek for "Head" or "cranium". Therefore, enkephalonetics = using your head. =)

Nobody seems to have mentioned what I believe is the real reason for this company's slide.

3dfx used to sell their chips to OEMs, in much the same way nVidia does. But after the Banshee, they bought a video card maker, and announced that they would no longer sell their chips to OEMs. In my opinion, this was a blatant attempt to monopolise the 3D card market.

Naturally, the video card makers had no alternative but to buy chips from other companies, or go out of business. This set up a situation of 3dfx vs the rest of the industry, and combined with nVidia's superior technology, the rest is history.

Pride goeth before a fall, as they say.

Be patient ... filtering technology will improve. As such techniques are refined, the signals will emerge more clearly. The Slashdot moderation/metamoderation system is an early example of group-generated filtering.

  10. Re:Conventional Tactics? on Protesting DMCA · · Score: 1

I think distributed tactics are a very good idea. One example is a group in the UK which has set up a Web-to fax gateway for public input to politicians, and has reportedly sent a thousand faxes. The points raised about email are valid -- how about writing your email, then printing it out and sending it as snail mail? And don't neglect the telephone. There's more about lobbying politicians at my Web page, in my sig.
