The point was that BeOS isn't very popular, yet CompUSA is carrying it anyway. FreeBSD is arguably *more* popular, yet CompUSA doesn't carry it. Is that because they choose not to, or because no one is packaging it? I don't know -- is anyone packaging FreeBSD? By that I mean, selling it in a box, not just slipping it in with a SAMS book.

It seems to me that the logical conclusion is to work this into some sort of VR system (when it's capable of that). Of course, to make it a really great VR system, you'd have to simulate the other senses too... I wonder how difficult that would be for a device similar to this?

And, seriously, they are all getting paid for this, so would it be too much to ask that they check the links before they post the stories? That they check for spelling errors?

I'm not going to make a fuss over this, but it wouldn't be hard to spend an extra 5 minutes for ever story they post, checking for small problems like this. They don't post that many stories, so I don't think it's too much to ask. But then, it's not my site, is it?

Yeah, and it doesn't mean that it's true either. I guess it all depends on what you think of "catch up" by. If you're looking at an installed base, Linux is still playing catch up to Windows by a long stride (not 2000, but NT anyway). If you count quality of the OS, then it's easy to say that Linux is way ahead, but unfortunately "quality" is often a measure of preference more than solid facts.

I use Windows and Linux (and OpenBSD for that matter) because I find that they both address different needs for me.

BRU and Arkadia also don't make much sense. RedHat used to package BRU with their distro and it didn't do them much good.

O'Reilly might make sense, except that it would be a waste of money to buy an entire publishing company for the sole purpose of developing documentation. Better to hire good writers.
