Fans aren't the only option. You could use water cooling or peltier devices to cool your system. Much quieter. Or you could put a layer of sound-proofing foam in your case. Either way, choosing you CPU on the basis of heat output isn't the only option anymore.
Children now days think they're old enough to know what's best for themselves but they don't. They cannot see the true consiquences of some of their actions and it's scary.
This is an extremely efficient way for parents to stay informed about about their childrend's school life. The kids will thanks their parents later, I did.
"kids nowadays"? Who are you to make such rash generalisations? But I'm sure when you were a kid you were perfectly capable of seeing the consequences of your actions. No, the problem is with the kids today.
Uh.. that ain't it (as far as I know).
The version of the story I always heard was that Intel had licensed bubble memory technology (yikes!) and in return IBM got the rights to manufacture the 8086/8088 without paying royalties (or at least substantial royalties). Originally the IBM engineers wanted to use the 68000 series, but the 8086/8088 could be had for next to nothing so they went for it.
Well... I just don't see how this even qualifies as news... I mean it's just one of many neat new features in Opera. Ooh. They didn't report it when Opera started including a built-in ICQ client. Or what about the new skinnable toolbars, huh? Hemos could have done a story about all the great new features in Opera, and how it's a great example of payware that hasn't yet been surpassed by open-source equivalents. But Hemos didn't... It's not news, it's not for nerds, and it doesn't matter. So why's it here?
The Constitution (Sorry, US centric) gives the right to the PURSUIT of happiness, not the right to it. 'persuit of happiness' is in the Declaration of Independance, but thanks for playing. The sad part is I'm Canadian.
The point is to create a complete OS using the linux kernel, not just the huge collection of GNU tools we all know and love.
Example
If you wanted to recompile a whole linux distribution, you'd have a lot of compiling to do...
But under FullPliant, all you'd have to do is compile the kernel then compile the OS.
Sweeeet.
Intel might as well just drive a couple of dumptrucks full of money to AMD Headquarters everyday. Let's see: they can't compete in the chipset market anymore because RAMBUS won't let them make DDR enabled chips 'till 2003, that's why Intel resumed their previous licensing agreement with VIA. And finding a P3 at 1ghz or faster requires you to either perform a miracle or to have friends or family at Intel. Intel is in it deep, and they know it...
Of course Earth will still be around in 52001, that's only 50,000 years from now, Earth has been around aprox. 2 Billion Years. Heck, Homo Sapiens appeared on Earth about 50,000 years ago, so we may even still be around (hopefully). Anyways, the CD definitly will be in a pretty sorry state by then, it will have decayed beyond readibility, even in a vacuum. The trace amounts of gases and chemicals left behind in the CD after manufacturing would do it in after a couple of hundred years...

These aren't the satellites you're looking for. Move along.
Then why did you link to it in your post? Silly taco. ./ slashdotted itself.
Heh.
BTW, I had been wondering what this was for.

Would it be that surprising to find Windows soon available "for non-commericial use"? ?
Yes. Yes it would.
