  1. Dish customers - Charlie Chat tonight! on Viacom and DishNetwork Battle On Air Over Contract · · Score: 1

DishNetwork customers should tune into the live Charlie Chat on channel 101 tonight at 9 pm EST. I'm sure they will have lots to say on the subject, at least I am hoping so. I would hate to lose my Jon Stewart fix...

...since my FM is broken and I can't be entertained by Loveline.

Sounds like a good reason to get your FM fixed. Loveline is great radio! I have been listening since '95 or so, except for during an unfortunate 6 month break when the local affiliate went through some "technical difficulties." However, during that time, I found that there are still some reliable streams of the show available online including wjse, wzpl, and mojo radio, to name a few.

Also, an excellent online resource is theLoveline Companion full of classic sound bites, etc. (check out the "holocaust" link under sounds for a laugh.)[warning: large file, but worth it.]

    Good times!!

How about Pushing Tin? Admittedly not as good as High Fidelity, but funny as hell nonetheless. I especially enjoyed all the fictitious TRACON controller scenes. And that old Gov't Issue building is perfect.

Dr. Rat!! Thanks for reminding me about that excellent book. (read it over 20 years ago.)
Flowers for Algernon is another good example of a story involving genetic research/experimentation gone awry.

    And then there was Ben...

  6. Subsidized Time on 1936 Perspective on Television · · Score: 1

Infinite Jest, a novel by David Foster Wallace, details a time when broadcast TV is replaced by ordering specific shows, which are then physically delivered daily to your household. Missing the TV advertisement revenue, companies started to buy the rights to entire years, which became known as Subsidized Time. Instead of numbered years, years became designated by the company who purchased the rights, like The Year of the Whopper, The Year of Glad, or The Year of the Depend Adult Under-garment.

Regardless of how it's defined, Buffy is one of the best shows on TV. Angel is good, too.
