I just want Compaq to get a better name for themselves.. that's why they bought DEC to start with. We all know the Presario sucks. But that's not all there is to Compaq. It is important to give due respect to them for having the foresight to buy a great company like DEC (even if they have choked on it ever since.)
Sir, It would seem that you are our last hero when it comes to free software.
Linus Torvalds stated in an interview with Marjorie Richardson in the Linux Journal that he wanted to make it clear that unlike yourself, he had no message.
Eric S. Raymond has stated that since he's incredibly wealthy, that he'll start charging for public speaking engagements since people can no longer claim he's doing it for the money.
It would seem that everyone is selling out these days. Apart from you that is. In the face of everything, you stand alone. One man against the world. You are our messiah, leading us to free software.
But after you're gone, then what? Who do we turn to when the corporations have patented everything and the little guy has no chance anymore? Do you have a system set up in the FSF for a replacement someday? Do you have a team of officers that are just as dedicated as yourself to furthering the cause of free software?
Most of the posts today have been asking your opinion on "open source" such and such. I know your opinion on that already. I want to know what your plan is regarding free software.
Thank you very much for pointing that out, I was getting ready to complain about how I'd just burned all my gifs, and here was my hero producing more. Ok, as long as LZW is out of the picture, then I'm happy.
I bought it. I've been waiting for a long time for Caldera to go public and now that they have I'm so happy. I got in at 26 1/4 and that was only possible because I believe the market situation was such that investors didn't know whether or not to jump into another Linux company. I missed the boat on Red Hat, VA Linux systems and Andover.net. But this time I got in before the price shot above what I was willing to pay. In this case I set my limit at 30.
So when you say Hackers don't buy and sell stock you're wrong. Not only do I do it, but some of the most succesful stock traders I know are computer geeks.
Caldera is a real company with a real product and anyone who doesn't own any Caldera stock should buy NOW.
no man, i figured we could all split the 300 bucks and maybe share the book. you get chapter one, i'll take chapter two.. what with the prizes being so extravagant and all, i'm surprised no one wants to form teams...
It is not a "murphy rule" that you can't use something but still carry it. You can be strong enough to carry an item but not strong enough to use it. Understand? This is a beautiful aspect of the game as it gives a hint of realism. Try picking up an old 6' two-handed sword. Now try swinging it. A little bit different yes?
I agree, some people do feel that linux is not for the masses, and they want to keep it that way. I would rather have it in use by more people so we can finally give microsoft a run for their money on the desktop market. How can we shout, "Down with microsoft.", while we say that linux is only for the "elite"? Isn't the idea to provide an alternative for everyone?... Including the average user? Just a thought.
so what about sgi's xfs? i thought that was going to be linux's savior for a journaling file system. Are we to expect this bundled in any distro's any time soon? will it replace ext2fs?
here's the real problem with that. if the schools did nothing and he did kill someone. then they could be in trouble right? everyone would say, 'you mean he wrote a story about killing people and read it out loud, and you didn't see the warning signs?' so the school has no choice but act on this and they get, "what are you doing? it's only a story." so it seems to me they're damned if they do and damned if they don't.
the first thing that comes to mind is the ACLU. I went to there website and found this http://www.aclu.org/features/f090999a.html you might find it interesting.
So under this new bill, if I get on my boss's computer and send an "everyone" email telling everyone to take the rest of the day off I might not only get fired, but also get charged with a felony? Too scary for me man, considering that's just what I did last week.
well, according to the story, microsoft is in on it too and they are the one's including the web tv. more proof that they are "not a monopoly".
this is like the 3rd time i've seen this story.. this sucks. they act like it's new news... stupid man... just stupid.
we got some real information on these things. I'm wondering however how this will affect my purchasing.

No it doesn't. Compaq bought DEC a long time ago, the proper term now is "Compaq Alpha".
you can also make mp3's of your own cd's and listen to them yourself right? well, i guess as long as you disregard the DMCA you can, and i do.

How about getting together a slashdot team?

Yeah, it looks like the matrix I suppose, but what my first thought was, is that it looks an awful lot like mortal kombat.

no kidding, well, at least they picked the right venue. i mean, marriage is just one big deathmatch after all.
dialpad and icravetv are the two web sites that make me thankful to have a cable modem. now i've lost one... well, there's always tomorrow.

as in "Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars." I think you'd seem a lot more credible as a Bowie fan if you knew what you were talking about.
