The idea is cool, but they should have used the vi keys instead. "I" means up? Yuck, everyone knows that's the insert key.. "K" means down? How ubout "K" means up like it's supposed to. C'mon, the vi keys are an accepted standard.

I was thinking the same thing devil dog. "Why is this a big deal? We've had eggs since the beginning, they were crap, but we've had them.. why is the article saying there aren't eggs now?" Obviously they don't know what the hell they're talking about. When they opened up the box of MRE's you better not be last or you're going to get the egg omellete.. either that or ham slice.. yuck. What were the #'s? Like 4 and 8 were the bad ones? What was the best one 12? Some kind of noodle dish? Oh, the spaghetti.. mmm.. that was a good one. And yeah, tabasco was a great thing to have for that "added" flavoring.
I have eaten the packing peanuts before. As a demonstration of how eco-friendly they are, I've popped one in my mouth, chewed it up and swallowed it. I eat one first, then I comment on how styrofoam is so rough going down but good for fiber, then after everyone is grossed out I explain about the starch. This is my 2nd favorite food trick.
How about DVDs that disintegrate after a period of time? Maybe after subjected to the heat of a DVD player or something. Then you have no waste. Like those packing peanuts made of starch. They disolve in water so you don't have to worry about styrofoam waste from packing material anymore.
I want to be able to have the same technology books available on tape as are available in print. I want to be able to drive to work and listen to SNMP for dummies. I want to drive home after a long day of dealing with written documentation and listen to CCNA turorials. Surely there are others out there that would like the same. How about a book/tape combo? That way you could listen to the tape then when you get to the office or home or wherever you can whip out the book and refer to the section that you wanted to look over again?
Or as you said the lack of editing. It starts off well enough with RMS talking about Free Software, and the origin of GNU/Linux. Then every other article talks about how much the author loves Linux. What gives man? RMS is always writing letters to magazines criticizing them for using the word "Linux" to refer to anything other than the kernel. Now even a magazine baring the name "Free Software" can't get it right. I'm pissed about it, and I'm sure he is too.
Note to all governements: You are doing nothing to protect my morals by restricting my internet viewing... my morals were gone long before I'd ever heard about the internet.
this is why i don't use mp3 players. if they can't support.ogg files, then they're no use to me. minidisc takes whatever i throw at it and loves it all. so throw away your faulty rio and quit accepting crap, especially when you know it's crap, just because they tell you it's cool to have one.
They could have posted in plain.txt format. Or HTML. Then everyone could read it no problem. Those aren't "non-windows formats" But thanks for playiing the race card all the same.
I'm also in the Plano area, and my stuff is back up as of last night off and on, and this morning for good. What I did was use my windows laptop to connect via dhcp and get the information on dns, gateway and ip information, then plugged that data into my unix machine as static information. Also they do have a rule about operating systems that won't deal with dhcp but you have to convince them you actually don't have a dhcp client. It's listed under the "Unsupported OS without DHCP client" section of the transition document. I was on the phone with them for a few hours last night and then again on the chat help for a few more hours but they were not helpful at all apart from "it will take a couple of weeks before we can help you with that". So I said to hell with it, and did my little maneuver. The only problem is I still have to test if I can ssh/telnet/ftp/whatever into my box now.. I hear they're blocking ports.. if that's the case I guess I'll have to take earthlink up on their free installation deal they sent me in the mail. (great timing for them huh?)
The first thing the Nazis did when they began their persecution of the Jews was take away their language. One little boy was sent to prison for asking his friend in Hebrew if he wanted to go to his house afterschool to play. Not only the Nazis, but also other groups have sought to control language when they sought to control a popluation. This is Microsofts attempt at controling us further by not allowing us a manner with which to criticize them. I suspect we shall be forced to use terms such as "Microsoft is double ungood" to keep with the language they are creating for us. Don't be fooled by their corporate claims! Newspeak is upon us! They're just starting out with the XP, wait until they have the.net. Just remember to always think positive thoughts around your telescreens to avoid detection by the Microsoft thought police.
since it's closed source they could be doing anything i guess.. i guess if they get away with it then next thing you know, microsoft will be running linux binaries as well.
I went to the local LUG meeting and this guy from Caldera was the guest speaker. He kept talking about how great open source was and how it was great we all worked as a team. Open source this, open source that. Then he demo'd his product, Volution, and when it had trouble someone just said, "oh no problem, with open source we can fix it." He kinda looked away a bit and quietly whispered, "Uh.. it's not open source."
Tough luck for Caldera man, I hate to see companies in trouble and people out of work, but they used the open source name in vain and now they're paying for it.
And to think I just started using nautilus last week when I installed the new Mandrake 8.0 with all the neat new Gnome stuff. Seems like everytime I find something cool something messed up happens. I guess next to go will be the evolution Outlook replacement.
I've been using VNN2000 since it came out a few months back. At first it was kinda lame since nobody was on it, only like 10 computers. Now there's a lot and lot's of files too. Interface is very smooth only problem is it only works with windows. But then so did Scour.
I was certain it was going to be Debian...you know.. those Debian Slime Devils...
Please spare us.. this is killing me.. these kernel updates are getting as annoying as the Cowboy Neal options in the polls.

How is this different from a standard tempest attack which has been around forever?
Stop buying their books.

Hmm, if we combine anti-hydrogen and anti-oxygen then we could make anti-water! A new sports drink for the new millenium...

Why didn't they just wait until April for KDE 3.0 to come out? Or are they going to release Mandrake 8.3beta at that time?

It is a magazine about libre software that is not available gratis. Does that clear things up?

I agree. I've never won at nethack, yet I've played it for years. The thrill of adventuring is the lure here.
Please... just let this subject die man, I've had enough already.
