But, in CS at least, grants cover a ton of travel. To publish in CS, you have to go to the conferences you're publishing in, unlike the rest of science which just has journals. That more than makes up for the lack of bonuses as far as fringe benefits go
no no no no no. I take it you don't have to travel for work? I find it one of the worst aspects of my job, and definitely not a "perk" let alone a benefit that offsets cash.
typically, the first step in convicting someone of a crime is to identify who did the crime. Second step, arrest that person. So it makes sense to try to identify the person who made the malware.
non sequiter, it was kinda funny that the silk road guy went by the name 'dread pirate roberts', but nobody came along to pick up the name and keep it going. Ruins the point?
this is all because of one man who did a brave thing and was forced to flee his country for a hostile nation. history books will write of snowden as a hero.
i agree with much of this. ms word is a solid word processor and i have never found anything better outside of niche uses, like if you need hard core layout features. excel is a really powerful program that has no match, while being really accessible for noobs. anybody in the world can open them. powerpoint is a disaster of ugliness, but anybody can open it as well. i prefer keynote. all of these beat anything that's in a browser. I even like the ribbon.
major frown boner: the way you can only open one excel window at a time, and each file opens as a sub window. powerpoint and word have moved beyond this. can excel?
ok, so the mandriva taxes that would have gone to other programs are redirected to mandriva laid off workers, so other taxes need to be diverted to these programs, which comes out of people's pockets. Do you really not understand how everything is connected? this is how greece became greece.
that's super cool. what about all the other employees that weren't laid off earlier, and now that the original laid off employees have gotten their pound of flesh, the new laid off employees get nothing cuz the company is bankrupt. and everybody is on the market chasing scarce jobs.
but the important thing is that the laid off employees got their 6 months of continued pay and benefits!! maybe they should be nice peeps and share that with everybody else who get nothing.
If you don't treat your workers right, you deserve to be driven out of business.
that's a super awesome point of view, except that when a company goes out of business then all the employees lose their jobs and have to compete for scarce jobs with other unemployed people. Is that a net win for the laid off employees or for society?
I don't understand your comment. one, I'm pretty sure cosmic radiation is so rare that detectors only get one hit every couple years, like spotting a supernova. second, if a radiation particle is so small and passes right through, does anybody care? like pulling a tablecloth out from under the dishes. Third, because CR is so rare, there is no scientific body of literature on the effects on living matter, much less humans. for all we know it could be helpful, the way the radiation from earth's yellow sun helps some individuals.
I think of an ansible more as a device that can generate images, like the Ouija board was back in the occult movement of the late 1800's and early 1900's. it wasn't really a communication device, unless you count talking to somebody on the other side as communication. not on the other side of the universe, if you catch my drift...
something not addressed in the comments so far, why would you need to rewire a home to accommodate DC? You'd prolly need to upgrade the circuit breaker, and upgrade the end appliances, but otherwise it's just copper, right?
if it's a mix of star trek, mission impossible III and alias then we're in good shape.

Okay, what other issues should I decide my vote on? In what way are people different?
I'm pretty sure a black hole is shaped like a pair of butt cheeks, with hands spreading it apart...
to be fair, there's a 50/50 chance that star wars VII could be pretty good...
North-american public = only likes "amerikacentric" films with many bimbos and car explosions sequences
yes please!
how would you recommend I make my decision. I guess I could vote for hill-bush-rub-chris. he/she is a great choice.
he's got my vote.

The employees who were laid off in 2013 sued and won
I don't get it. what did they sue for? why did they win?

what is an ansible?
google isn't an oem
I know, right? A boneheaded miss on a slam dunk reference.
jebus you play mobile games for 5 hours without stopping????
My manager wants to be able to facetime me
Sweet... like a late night thing? I hope she's hot.

I was always of the opinion that the No Child Left Behind program should be amended to the Few Children Left Behind program.
Hey, wait a minute. My freshman year at Catholic high school I made enough money doing football players
I'll bet!
