    Americans understand that we should defend the rights of pedophiles and racists, because if it's ok to violate their rights then it's ok to violate everybody's rights. the police have more than enough tools for catching criminals without needing to violate the constitution.

    cuz that's the only options to do with it. I can connect my phone to my car stereo for phone calls, to my speakers in my office, or I can use the phone to set up a cell phone data bridge. you must be thinking of something else.

    be honest. when was the last time you owned an iphone? because anybody who uses iOS for a period of time, and doesn't come at it with jaded eyes, likes it. my guess is you already have a feel against it, and only tried it out at the store for a couple mins.

    another benefit of ipads is assuming you have an apple product you can send imessages back and forth, which are like SMS but work over wifi too on a data channel that is not related to the SMS protocol.

    if it happened in north america or the EU they'd quarantine the areas and the people inside would be super pissed but likely understanding mostly.

    maybe in Europe because they're used to their governments telling them what to do. in America, people have RIGHTS and people have GUNS and they're going to do what they please thank you very much.

    It is grim because we don't want to "offend" anyone with the proper response (quarantine the zone)quote> lulz. why would you think that quarantine zones would be effective? issue a: the quarantine cordon would need to actually stop people from entering and leaving. even if you post troops there will be people bribing and sneaking in and out. issue 2: you need a massive logistical response to take care of a large population under quarantine, and the currently afflicted nations don't have the logistics they need. issue d: what do you do when people riot.

    come back to me with an example of when quarantining was effective. ever. in history.

    food automation: FDA
    automotive automation / safety: NHTSA
    security/surveillance automation: NSA

    Thinking the same thing. Ostensibly, a government agency would stay the hell out of the way save for basic health/safety concerns... but in the age of bureaucrats who want to puff up their service records, I can see such a commission going straight to hell in an awful hurry.

    (OTOH, seeing how ineffectual the FCC is at doing its job viz. the Internet and Network Neutrality, who knows?)

    The FCC is quite effective in protecting vested interests of those powerful enough to lobby government.

    That's the real job of ALL governments - protect those powerful enough to reward the government.

    agreed. job #1: make enough work to keep your job. job #2: get money for powerful people who will lobby for/against you. job #3: flex your regulatory muscles to give yourself a false sense of power. #4: profit!
