    i'm responding tot he comment "vegas casinos were doing this for years". This comment implies that because a private company does it, it's ok for the govt to do it as well. i'm pointing out that the two situations are very different. +1 ontopic.

    there's nothing new or noteworthy about the technology. the new thing is it's in the hands of the govt.

    semantics. goog tracks you to make money off of your activities. apple doesn't give a hoot because they don't make any money there.

    they see you as a customer, not as a product.

    fact: apple makes money when you buy the product. they do not make money by tracking how you use the product.
    fact: goog gives the "product" away for free. but they track how you use is, and sell access to this information to earn their profits. so yes, for apple you are the customer and for goog you are the product. how do you disagree, without ad hominems?

    there's a difference when a private company does it and the government does it. the government has the legal ability to shoot and kill citizens on the street, take away their belongings, or jail them for life. we have a constitution in place to limit the role of government. private companies have more leeway but less scope to dictate people's lives.

    they released the first smartwatch that people will actually wear. they introduced the first NFC system that people will actually use. they won't mine your payment data to sell more ads at you. they see you as a customer, not as a product.

    jebus so much hate on slashdot for apple in the past week. it shows they did some amazing things, otherwise there wouldn't be this instinctive urge to tear them down.

    i don't know if the NSA compels them to lie or just forbids them from telling the truth. my understanding is that as long as you keep your trap shut, they don't expect you to actually perjure yourself or cause all sorts of SEC trouble.

    this is a manufactured controversy. i have not heard first-hand of anybody being upset. the anti-apple people (like slashdot) are trying to make a mountain out of a molehill. "outrage" my butt.

    Without a license they don't have insurance coverage. If they get in an accident it will be all out of pocket and they will go broke. Sux man

    Since revoking drivers licenses isn't practical, more driver training is perhaps a better plan.

    if a pilot few a commercial plane while drunk he would be banned from stepping into a cockpit ever again. He was given a massive responsibility and failed to live up to it. Why should driving a car be any different.
