Terror? I thought it was a funny movie. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved MBD, but I personally thought of it as a funnier 'Natural Born Killers'-type 'social commentary'. Well, It just sows to go ya.

The thing about PI was: It was completely hackneyed and cliched, and yet marketed and hyped as 'totally groundbreaking'. Have you ever seen ?: a) Eraserhead (or Blue Velevet, or other Lynch) b) Begotten c) The Kingdom (Or Zentropa) d) Stalker (or Solaris) &c.
Problem being that everything 'groundbreaking' in PI had been done before, and better. I've found that those people who were so impressed by PI were people who were used to Hollywood movies.
That's what *I* think was wrong with PI. Don't go all fanboy on me now.
Online I'm not so sure. My sources include: the magazines Film Comment and Neon, the video stores around the local college, The University newspaper, and the weekly Arts and Entertainment rag. Now that I think about it, I really don't know where to go online for this sort of info. Weird. Hope that helps. -nme!
PS I was super-disappointed in PI, but I'll agree with your likes.

Hey, Halloween was the highest grossing "independent" film up until TBWP. That didn't stop Waterworld and Titanic from being made.

PS Good to know I wasn't the only one seriously dissapointed by PI
Is this your first exposure to independent cinema? Your points about technology, while valid, are old hat. People have been making very good movies cheaply for a long time. Seems to me that the real story is the marketing (which I missed out on, how did that happen?). -nme!
Is that like, what the song "When Robots Cry" (Sung by "The Artist Formerly Known As Prince"(!)) is about? I guess it's like, possible that JFK Jr, was a robot, but then, couldn't he just be, like, repaired or something?
Seriously though, if your coverage of the Kennedy "Tragedy" (Digression: Why is this tragic? Who here *knew* JFK, JR? Not me. I'll get upset when my parents start exploding.)consists of complaints about the other coverage, it's still coverage. Post-modernism can't save you know. Besides, this was all stated in a clearer (and shorter(!)) fashion in a "This Modern World" strip (whose URL I'm too lazy to dig up. It's at Salon.com) after the Littleton "tragedy".
In the words of the immortal P. Opus "No. Go away you Vultures". Take that, J.K.
Aside: I use Linux on quite a few boxes (p120, 16M) that I wouldn't dream of putting NT on, because it's such a hog. It would be nice to see something like this pointed out by these tests. -nme!
I'm going to take issue with the comment "Linux barely works on laptops". I've been using Linux (2.036) and KDE on my no-name laptop with no-name PCMCIA cards for around 6mos. Difficulty in getting Linux to work was analogous to the difficulty I had with Win98 ( I dual-boot for games). Performance is actually better with Linux and KDE. Although I do gain even more speed switching to plain ol X with afterstep. Not to say that you don't have a point though... "Proofreading is for wimps" -nme!
Can we score the Village Voice a 0 for 'off topic'? How about 'flame bait'? Since when is this about race? There's sort of a common fallacy that since 'white males' have historically been 'oppressors', that they (we, I'll admit it) should put up with any treatment they receive, in the interest of good karma or something equally as silly. This is about the reaction of society to 'difference'. Sure, race is a trigger for discrimination, but so is having an unpopular opinion (Socialists don't get much respect in Highschool (or anywhere else for that matter)). Making a value judgement about which sort of discrimination is worse becomes a 'forest-for-the-trees' situation. What purpose does it serve to sit around arguing about whether people's complaints are justified? It's like taking a set of 5 spouse abusers and saying that the one who didn't draw blood is less guilty and/or a better person. Disclaimer:I'm just rambling, and I think proofreading is for wimps. -nme
www.sharperimage.com has a lot of Yupppie-scum type stuff, but there are a few gems. Multi-tools, MultiFunction travel alarms yadda yadaa. Caveat: You can find most of this stuff cheaper at other sources. -nme
It took me approx 20 minutes to get through, and then I could only order tickets at a theater on the other side of town due to 'technical difficulties'. Can't say I mind a 45 minute drive though. I'll just make a night out of it. -nme
Negativelands 'U2' and John Oswalds 'Plunderphonics' both ran into similar legal troubles and neither of them won. It seems to hinge on the difference between parody and appropriation. Wish I had some relevant links, sorry. nme

It's a Myth about a myth. Or a "Meta-Myth", if you will. Keep in mind that none of these 'Myths" meet the classical definition of 'Myth'.
