If we can't trust an app to be reliably checked for safety by a single company, then the companies should be vetted by the FDA and require that an app be tested by at least 10 of the FDA's pool of safety check companies (any others are welcome to test as well).

You should direct the job hoppers to a place like Nerdery where they can develop their skill and learn to work with a team (I've only worked at two companies, neither of them Nerdery, I've only visited their HQ for meetups, it's a nice place). If you need programmers to work on things, you could hire Nerdery to do them or maybe even hire some of their programmers directly (not sure about the latter).

I'm totally gonna use one of my RPis to make a portable gaming computer, I'll probably even make one for my cousin as a birthday or Christmas present so he can enjoy the old games as well. I haven't seen any of the links yet, but I'll probably include a reader if possible*, find something that can interface with the GBA link cable and wireless adapter, and get a high capacity battery so I can play for at least a week on a charge. I wonder if the RPi can handle N64 or PS1/2 games...
    * I'll probably rip most of them so I don't need to carry them, hopefully I can get the saves as well.

I'm on Vista still. According to Wikipedia, mainstream ended April 2012 and was extended to April 2017. Honestly I could care less until new games don't work on it or a new version actually does something to make switching worthwhile (Windows 7 isn't that much better, Windows 8 is an irrelevant abomination).

  9. Too worried on Ask Slashdot: Best Rapid Development Language To Learn Today? · · Score: 1

What can you really expect from a different language? Your code isn't going to look that much different in a different language unless you're taking advantage of something rather unique. There are going to be quirks in any language you learn, so just get used to them and don't worry about it. I'm only 22 and I have no problem using PHP, I don't understand what the big deal is with all these other languages. You mentioned C, I was actually intending on learning C++ (which is pretty much an extension of C) because I liked it more than the other ones I looked at... I just had no reason to make a native program and I wasn't too interested in helping out any OSS projects I saw.

  19. Try raw food instead of junk "food" on You Are What You're Tricked Into Eating · · Score: 1

The problem is all the junk "food" that's been processed to hell (eg cereal, cookies, chips, soda). Among other things, junk food generally has very little fiber which would otherwise make you feel fuller, help remove fat, burn calories from digestion, and regulate sugar absorption. The best thing you can do is eat as much raw plants as you can, instead of processed crap. Just buy a box of bananas, some other fruit for flavor, and whatever veggies you like, then blender it all up!
Side note: Plant juices are better than soda in many ways, but there isn't any fiber to slow down sugar absorption, so it might be just as bad as soda in that aspect.
