And that was a year ago (give or take a few months), until TrollTech changed its license and the FSF certified the new QPL as open source.
I read your article and I think you're right on the mark about where we need to go. I just want that this doesn't become an open-source-close-mind project where only my carrots count. We NEED this kind of improvement on *nix to make it user friendly for the computer-literate-impaired, but we should be working together (i.e. not KDE vs. GNOME vs. whatever else)
So let's start cooperating and make Linux the best damn OS ever made!
I'm not talking about developing one part at a time. My concern is that this is supposed to be a GUI email client (they even compare it to mutt), yet the part NOT working is email functionality.
If they have many developers, why not use some of those resources to get the most important part of the project working (hint: send and receive emails).
Then again, maybe evoultion is not about emails, maybe it's about everything else.
It is suposed to be a nice GUI Email program with several other features (ala Outlook), but the preview clearly indicates that the email part is not working, only little parts.
That's what I find so amusing about Evolution. If you're making an email killerapp, first make sure that the email part works, then add other functionality.
Guess I'll wait until version 1.0 comes out and maybe by then I could actually read email with this program
My personal favorite is Naviscope, which not only filters ad banners, but also gives you statistics, you can traceroute, ping, watch the HTTP headers sent/received, etc., and best of all, it's free!
And no, I don't work for the company and this post is NOT an ad, so it can't be blocked by mozilla... only the almighty moderators.
Seeya!
P.S: I think I saw in freshmeat a clone of naviscope in development for linux... that'd be great!
I thought games like GranTurismo (2), Medievil and well lots of the newer PSX games were pushing the PSX to the limit?
Well, i guess it all depends on what is considered the "limit". Last year, (or was it two years ago, i tend to mess up), everyone thought the limit was reached for the PSX. Then came Grand Turismo, and everyone was impressed. They said THAT was the limit. The next year came GT2, and now people are saying the limit has been reached. But until no more developers keep creating new titles for the PSX, we will see more impressive things coming out from the PSX console.
Which brings me to another point. Now that PSX2 is out, are there companies still developing for PSX??? I'm sure there are some yet unreleased titles, but that was work in progress. And I think it MAY be a waste of time to develop for the old one, having all that new horsepower on the new one. Then again, there are a lot of companies with a large group of developers specialized in PSX, and there may be some timeframes/budgets considerations (how long will it take for a group of developers to get acquantied(sp?) with the new system?)
If I have a small store, and I needed ONE cash register that could handle everything (sales, inventory, reports, receipts, etc.), and I wanted to spend as little as I could afford, I think A Linux-based Open Source program that could do this would be great.
I know I need the hardware (barcode scanner, printer(s), Cash drawer, etc), but I would like a program that could handle all this kinds of hardware, and of course the software part...
Now, is there any such program for Linux??? Where?
They seem to be working on at least modifying some of the messages for the default installation of Apache:

Another thing. Mr. Chiou is using Windoze, acording to queso. (How did I found out the IP address for Mr. Chiou's computer? It's a simple matter of searching thru all the records for their DNS server, which btw are a very few)
I would thought that a pre-IPO company would have thousands of computers (well, hundred maybe) available for testing, programming, sales, management, etc. But the DNS only shows 25 records.
I actually got out of work, cruised at 80mph on the streets to get to my house and try to watch a decent broadcast of the Transmeta announcement on DSS and guess what? THEY'RE SHOWING THOSE DAMN SCREEN SAVER RERUNS!!!
I had to watch the announcement with my 56k modem. =(
Does anyone have any information on when/if they're going to show the announcement on TV???
What's the TV on ZDTV for, if I can't watch what surely must be the best computer related story on TV. Guess Television broadcasts will be dead in a couple of years. Everything will be webcasted.
Well, I live in Mexico, and I haven't heard anything about this project yet, but that doesn't surpise me.
There are two things that may make this project close/take a while. One, the National Autonomus University of Mexico (UNAM) has been on strike since March of 1999, meaning that for almost ten months, this univeristy hasn't seen any activity. (and you wander why we're a third-world country)
The second one (and the one that I hate the most) is that since the Project Leader is oriented towards GNOME, they're waiting until GNOME is stable AND translated to spanish. I think he's being parcial about this. If he went with KDE, he could have started a long time ago. This is one example where the KDE vs. GNOME war (conflict) is hurting the Linux community.
I think this lawsuit is wrong from start. Both "what's happenin" and "Que pasa" have been slang phrases in their corresponding languages. I think few of the population really knows who started those phrases.
BTW: Slashdot in spanish would be "entrepunto", so you better get it before someone else does... =)
Ups, too late. I already got it. =) (Just kidding)
What Operating System it's going to have. I guess that they'll make their own, as some of the webTV appliances, but wouldn't it be cool if I can put a Linux OS there? I mean, the penguin would feel like home.
That's sure is great for the people that cannot decide which one is better. Soon they will be able to run an application written for either WM on the other (or at least one hopes).

I think typing is out of the question. But you could talk to it and give it verbal commands.
