Resizing windows is still problematic in OS 10.3, as they haven't resolved the underlying technical issue yet. I think arstechnica has an article describing the problem.
However 10.3 has many other optimizations and should be speedy in most operations though. I don't resize windows that much for it to be a big problem really.
Keep in mind that OS 10 is still quite new and is getting better every year, there is still much optimization ahead. Don't give up on it yet.

I thought Netscape got a raw deal from MS, but I do wish a quick, quick end for Real. If only it could have been them instead.
Really, in a world of quicktime, shoutcast, ogg, and wma, there is absolutely no need or room for real and it's shit/spy/crapware.
I recommend itunes or winamp 5 once it stablizes if you don't like wmp.
Of course he plugs his company. That is the whole point of the site, to draw people in and get them to notice his wares. Nothing wrong with that.
People may or may not agree with his commentary, but Joel doesn't claim to be something he's not. I didn't find the article to be very anti-unix either. Really, I enjoy reading his articles, not because I agree with everything he says, but because he is a good writer.
He is just a geek like the rest of us with all the limits that go with it.
Dvd shrink does the same, is easy to use and is free.
Really, I have several older dvd's that were 4 gigs originally and look fine. The newer ones that are 8 gig that I have shrunk to 4 look fine. I can't tell any difference. Infact I have been able to get down to 2 before it starts looking crappy.
This tells me that the extra bandwidth is just approaching the land of diminishing returns.
I don't know, I liked ol' pournelle. He reminded me of a crusty old coot transported into the future. Kind of like Buck Rogers or something.
I enjoyed reading his articles at times out of sheer entertainment value. I don't remember the tone of his column ever approaching the tone of the above mentions guys.... that their predictions were already set in stone, even when they were totally absurd.
Apparently you don't know the meaning of the word approximation. Transliteration between alphabets is anything but standard, and it probably never will be. The fact that you mention at least two systems already illustrates the point nicely. English spelling is even inconsistent with itself.
I knew exactly what he meant the second I read it, and it takes a shit-eating-never-had-sex-living-in-parents-baseme nt-propeller-head like yourself to make a big deal of him adding an extra letter to the word, not to mention my typo(s). Heh heh.
I was thinking about this for a few hours, and I think you'ved helped me come up with a major difference.
I think it related to the principle of copying versus stealing a la: http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/why-free.html I guess it is fine if 90+% of people are using free software and not contributing, because it is just information and virtual technology, infinite as it were.
When we consider real, finite resources though, a significant percentage need to contribute. If they don't, there wont be enough resources to go around.
I've thought about this before, that communism will always fail because it goes against the grain of human nature, i.e. greed and laziness.
However, recently I've observed the nature of open source software. It seems some form of free sharing is at least moderately successful. Scientific discovery might be a very successful example.
I'm wondering how come these are succesful while other experiments have not, such as manufacturing or other industries. Maybe the central planning is the downfall?
Have any ideas? Care to discuss? Could communism be improved to work WITH human nature, instead of against it?

They want $99 for another AC adapter for my laptop. Never mind you can get a similar one at Radio Shack for $12 -- sleaze-balls.
Audio infrastructure? Why will audio put linux over the top? And to which do you refer?

Whew, I'm cranky tonight.
No worries, mate.
damn, you beat me to it. I was thinking the exact same thing.
C'mon. Now of course Xerox 'innovated' in the area 20 years ago. But what have they done for me lately??
I'd say Apple's doing well recently.

Try installing it on another machine, then transfering the files and settings over.
Usually works unless they have done something wacky.
I think the opinions of normal people are important when analysing software. It is us mouth-breathers who will be using it.
Hi, I'd like to do the same(unix->python) at some point in the future. Interested in sharing the code?

How bout that Dvorak guy, or bonehead Jesse Burst? I think both of them are better at getting it exactly wrong
Yeah, I think they started with mpeg1, then upgraded a few years later.

DirectTV has been available in the US for 10 years at least, maybe more.
Maybe you didn't notice, but Japanese words are spelled IN JAPANESE.
Any english aproximation is just that, an aproximation. Claiming it is misspelled makes you look like a moron.
I don't want a linux-only-oem. I just want one to give me a choice...
windows, linux, or blank hard disk.
Nope. 2003 is the best windows ever. Take that as you want. =).
90% of the security flaws effect all versions of NT and up, and many are from IE, but I use mozilla.
so why not make it anonymous, or choose a pen name?
me too. I never heard of it before. Oh, well I've had grep installed for ages, but good to know findstr is there.
KCRW baby !!! It has become my favorite station. Sometimes it is brilliant. Sometimes complete crap. Not the same thing over and over.
