Oh, just to show that they are trying to do good in the world instead of evil. It was kind of a joke, but lots of corps donate to charity, even if just for advertising purposes.
I don't use the software people are discussing, so I have no idea what I'm talking about. But, that's not gonna stop me from calling them whiners for not putting up with unethical business practices, just because I didn't experience it in the 'neglected' mac port.
It was even worse than that. I think they pioneered the 'scumware' field, getting out in front of the internet revolution early. Demanding registration, hiding the free player, skinz, popups... don't get me started.. whew. I often wish microsoft had targeted them for termination before netscape, it used to be in my.sig.
That said, I'm willing to give them another chance.... in about 5 years when they have earned it by going legit and start donating to charity, and maybe even donating some to open source.
Anyone have any comments regarding these vs. the sgi file manager? I was a big fan of their file path widget thingy. Here is an example of it: http://www.sgi.com/software/irix/images/thumbnai ls.gif It's nice how you can move up/down the tree by clicking the folder's button.
I've never used the pathfinder/gtkcopy path widget, but I'd like to see how it performs in daily usage.
One thing I notice is that the buttons on the path aren't editable, a aspect of sgi's that I liked.
Don't be too sure. There is not much that can be done if a site makes you sit through a page for 15 seconds, then redirects you to the real one with an encoded url.
I think that is what will happen when the ie userbase upgrades, and my ad-free mozilla surfing may come to an end. Even if you block the images, you are still waiting.
> I think his point was more that any war is nearly unthinkable in Europe,
That's part of the problem. For example, you might remember the Yugoslavia thing a few years ago. Europe shutting the curtains while innocent people are being slaughtered on its doorstep.
Sometimes evil needs to be fought, there just isnt any other way. Now the US chooses the fights that it finds advantageous to itself, clearly, but that is not unexpected.
Even as half-assed as W invaded Iraq, at least it has a future now, no thanks to Europe and it's superiority complex.
Tabs arent just good for reading multiple pages... they can help when reading one at a time. How?
When you switch to the new page, it is available instantly... BAM!! That saves a lot of time over switching to another web server, reloading a different page, and the browser scrolling to where ever you had scrolled to. You don't have to worry about losing your place on the first page either.
Is that true? That's a HUGE change in less than a billion years. Looks like the people in the future are going to have to get used to hot days and cold nights.
At least there will finally be enough hours in the day!
Yes, he(the poster) can do it. Best to ease off of it though, gradually. Drink lots of water and pop a few ibuprofen to get through the headaches.
Pay attention to your.sig and notice that we do have control of our own destiny, despite what the TV may have brainwashed you into believing. If someone can't do it alone then they need to get help, which he is starting to do here, it is nothing to be ashamed of.
First decide you want to be free of caffeine, find how to get there (a road map), and excecute. Sounds like mental discipline to me. Stop being a pussy. =)
I don't follow your claim that beta's existance helped vhs. There were no drastic improvements to vhs, other than manufacturing efficiencies, which are to be expected anyway. Competition between the different manufacturers of a _single_ standard (vhs decks, recordable disc) is a much bigger factor, it seems to me.
Likewise, 99.9 % of the population have never heard of divx (other than the circuit city version) and as such it could not have affected prices in any manner.
Really, home dvd players are just souped up cd players that have been in production for 20 years, there is nothing in them that warrants a price of $499. It was just a matter of time before prices plummeted, and it still took 5 years.
These format wars are shit, and why I still haven't bought a standalone dvd player or HDTV set and don't plan to, until the market decides. I'm not the only one either. These companies are just throwing away profits with all the needless +/- duplicity and FUD.
Because that's how QT and GTK work, they draw the interfaces themselves... Most(All?) X toolkits do in fact, it comes with the territory since X never came with a standard widget set.
If you want native widgets on your cross platform apps start supporting wxWindows. It is the only toolkit I am familiar with that does what you are asking, and is nice to use, but doesn't have a large mindshare. I believe there is a library for java that does the same, but wxPython is much nicer, imho.
Another thing that really bugs me is when otherwise perfectly good windows apps insist on drawing their own skinned interfaces when Windows widgets would work just fine.
Easy, they represent us, we do what they say, ha ha.
Actually, I don't think media has as much to do with is as you seem to believe. They at least try to give the impression of being balanced. The biggest influence is the big money spent by industry trade groups lobbying in Washington. Come reelection time, who's needs get listened to first?
I'm not sure what breach of contract has to do with it, he may have made a mistake, but it is surely already illegal under many copyright infringement laws.

So to paraphrase....

Is that about right? =)
OOOOOOHHHHH No,
Every negative comment here reinforces experience I had with Real Scumware. I have plenty of experience with it too, before I gave it up for good.

I'll believe it I see it.
It's in the Edit/Application Settings menu in vmware 4, can't remember where in vmware 3.
It is a global setting... you can also specify it on each vm, though I can't think of a good reason to do so.

Also, make sure to set the vm's to low priority when you are not in the window, it makes a huge difference in system response, even without Ht.

And before any pedantic slashbot mentions it, I know it's _its_ not it's. Typed it by mistake.

right click, save as, didn't work?
I noticed problems appeared after moving from 1.4 to 1.5

I wondered the same, but then found this link.

Nah, he's right, although not very descriptive.

Right, Xt slipped my mind. Would using Xt, instead of drawing, speed GTK/QT up?
I seem to remember Xt widgets looking like black and white squares, and not particularly useful these days. May be irrelevant though.

Unfortunately it is not interesting to say such a thing if you are only two years old, it loses the impact of the revelation.
Now get off the computer and wipe your nose before daddy gets home and beats your bratty little butt!
Crikey! I cant believe that I am 33 years old and never realized numbers were right to left (backwards) until this very instant.
Thanks for rocking my world.
Strange, my Itanium at work has EFI AND linux AND Windows installed.

The US is not, and never was a democracy. See article IV, section 4.
