I agree that high school can be inane and pretty stupid... but here's the deal. High school material is pretty easy. If you're intelligent enough to find the classes stupid and inane, you can easily get a B in class without opening a book and just by half-sleeping in class. If you're not at that level and don't understand the material without studying, but are not prepared to study in order to master it, what does that say about you? College isn't going to be any easier. It isn't about it being soul-crushing, it's about the fact that if you can't be arsed to learn basic grammar and math, university is not the place for you because there's more of that coming your way.
It's not okay to say "I find this boring so I won't do it". You can't succeed without ever putting effort into something you don't like. Real life doesn't work like that, you can't always have it your way. If you don't want to put in enough effort to pass a test, school is just not for you, go do something else.
Frankly, college admissions are pretty damn well designed. Adam Grant is a professor at Wharton, a b-school. What's the process for that? There's a standardized test, a one shot deal on measuring some form of intellectual capabilities. There's a reliance on your grades in school, which come from a prolonged period of evaluation. There are essays, so you can show your creativity and what makes you you. There's an evaluation of your job experience and extracurriculars, to show that you have life skills and experiences. Then there's a bloody interview, where they make sure you are who your application seems to suggest. Compare that to the process of finding a job. School admissions are much more structured, and frankly, probably better at finding a good candidate than most interview processes. What's wrong with it? Is it only that it requires people to memorize and do well in a test? The test is only a portion of the evaluation criteria, and yes, I expect people that want to get in to put in the effort for it. Someone that has the resilience and the mental strength to succeed in something they don't enjoy should accomplish even greater things when they start doing things they love.

The app itself forces you to upgrade, because... I was going to write yay-money-grab, but Skype is "free", so... I'm not sure, more ads, more NSA loopholes, or something, but as expected nothing changed technology-wise and everything still works if you block the call to force the update.
So, my gf had to update her Mac OS (granted, 5-6 years old Mac) just so that we could chat on Skype. It's not about having updates forever. She didn't want a single update. Hell, I don't want a single update either. If my shit works, it works, leave it be. I'm not even sure what Skype updates add except ads and a module that increases memory consumption. (I'm half-kidding; I truly don't know what those updates give me, but I don't _really_ think it's just to make me use more RAM.)

What kind of "applications" are you building using data from your ERP system? The whole goal of having the system is to have this single, integrated software that does everything. Sure you can interface with it, but "best practices" would mandate you only do it when it's strictly necessary. Having a bunch of Excel spreadsheets running around kind of defeats the purpose of having your ERP in the first place.. I know the costs are always great, but if your ERP system can do what you want to achieve, then use it. You never know if the APIs are as great as you think they are, and I shudder to think of having to maintain 20 different applications using an ERP system whose data model might change ever so slightly over the years...
Also, plan your staffing. If you have the money to pay for Oracle, you have the money to hire one or two people in-house to manage and code on it. They can guide your consultants and keep them honest, without that expertise you can easily be wasting money. The best people are the ones that worked as developers at Oracle, don't count on people that studied to just get a certification.

I'm not suggesting murdering people, but the step before revolution, in a democratic country, should be to let your opinion known and denounce the situation. Send mails to and call your congressmen, but more importantly, organize yourself. Protest it, denounce it, make it known, make it impossible to ignore. That's how you change things.
And if it doesn't? Then you need to admit you stopped living in a democracy, and do whatever is necessary to restore it, if you want democracy back.

For example, try negotiating a role as an associate in investment banking while saying "hey cut down 5 weeks of my salary I'll take extra time off." It can't work, because the culture doesn't allow it. You either accept the role with no vacation and high pay, or you don't get hired. I can easily negotiate a couple grands on a salary, but getting an extra week off? Rough.
Also the "market wage" (or "market total compensation package") is highly dependent on the laws regulating it. If every single company in the US was paying you a pittance, with some paying less or more of a pittance, you would technically be "forced" to work for close to nothing because you won't have the choice to do otherwise. That's exactly what's happening with the minimum wage and people with no education. They can't work for themselves because they lack that capacity, and are stuck accepting $7/h because that's the only thing they can have (that, or crime, I guess). It would take extraordinary courage to pay your employees more than "you have to", even if sometimes that's the right thing to do for the company and the country (notice how Seattle isn't dying off right now, and how Ford helped bring a middle-class to America).

How is that relevant though? eSports is just a name, but the fact remains that people watch these things, will pay money to watch "live", and advertisers can monetize these eyeballs. That's why it's viewed like "traditional sports". Now you may think people are stupid and are paying money to watch a bunch of dudes clicking on a mouse with fingers on WASD, but hey, people watch a bunch of dudes trying to get an oblong ball from point A to point B. Different activity, same concept, and same result for corporations.
What I find really interesting is that the difference is so large between men and women, _for the same weight_. When I see a linebacker, I know he's stronger. As a man in a crowd of a mix of men and women, some taller/larger and some smaller/skinnier than me, I don't really feel threatened. However getting the stats, if I were a woman and knew that every single male my size is almost twice as strong as me, and even the ones shorter than me are probably stronger... yea that would be scarier. I can only imagine if everyone is 6'3 and the size of a linebacker, and yep, threats become much more threatening.

I can only imagine if everyone is 6'3 and the size of a linebacker, and yep, threats become much more threatening.
Thanks for the link, found it very interesting. To me it appears most large companies have average salaries in the 80k+ range for H1B, and most of the 50-60k companies are either small, Indian (sorry, calling it like I see it), or universities/non-profits, in which I can assume the average salary is already way lower.
Also keep in mind not all H1Bs are software developers, and might not commend such a high salary in the first place, so.. I don't see anything that unusual, frankly.
