You know that kid who rushes to the top of the hill, just knowing that he's finally going to win King of the Hill for the first time ever? Then when he gets to the top of the hill, he's elated when he realizes he's at the top... only to realize a few moments later that all the other kids ran up a different hill?
I still have my floppy with the Sprynet-branded version of Mosaic. I keep it on a shelf with my copy of VisiCalc and my Geek Award.
It was actually a lot more than just a branded version of Mosaic. A great deal of stuff was added to make it a usable browser. Rumour in-house was that we had a full SGML browser in beta (or about to be beta?) at the time CompuServe bought the company. What a missed opportunity!
But for the actual browsing experience, IE8 has the upper hand -- for now.
And yet IE8 has no gigantic collection of uber-useful add-ons, and it's CSS support is more on a par with FF 1.5 or 2 (at best!), certainly nowhere NEAR FF 3 or Webkit-based browsers like Safari & Chrome. And if you think IE8 is going to be secure (They promised it was a priority this time!), then I've got several bridges to sell you.
MS could make things a lot better for web developers by forcing IE8 upgrades on anyone using IE6, though, at least on platforms that support IE8. That box model... *shudder*
What are the implications for NOT finding the Hggs Boson? Will it be a case of "We know it exists, we just can't find it", or will it be more about figuring out what's what if it doesn't really exist?
I copied my former coworker's farewell email, switched it to HTML (first time I ever sent an HTML-formatted email), and simply marked out any words that didn't apply to me, added my own next to them, and sent that.
This is what I've been waiting for. If they can get this going with a good catalog (unlike what's available now), in HD (720p or 1080p, no interlacing for me, thanks; I'm a recovering Amiga user!), I'll be all over this. Getting a good HD catalog going is going to be a big 'if', I suspect.:(
All the js code I use on my sites is to add Ajax features and fix browser bugs (DD_roundies, etc.). Block that and enjoy your browsing experience. *shrug*
No, you don't "lose" when Godwin's Law is invoked simply because it's invoked. It's quite often invoked at the first mention of Hitler, even when it's used as a relevant example (see also: Fascism). I can invoke the law of gravity when talking about friction, but that doesn't make it a valid invocation. It's similar to people invoking Moore's Law when they're talking about processor speed, which it isn't about, but has a relation to. Use it right or don't use it, I say.

That's Microsoft.
No, that's a "First Post"er.

What happened to the days of buying the boxed version of the browser in the store for $39.99?
Dude, I used to work for Spry, makers of 'Internet in a Box'. Those were the days.
A writer and his dog-and-pony show.
bittorrent, the solution to all retarded network executives.
They're going to do exactly what G4 did
Which is what MTV did long before G4. Did you know they used to play music videos?

We've already got two languages that look like that - Welsh and Klingon.
Leave that to the creationists and remarket the Boson!
The new Bose On(tm) particle - it's the best-sounding particle ever! It's so good, they named two physicists after it!

Nothing you say? Here's the part where I tell you I knew what you typed before it posted.
No way, man, that's just because I surf in full duplex!
8N1 fo life!
Sounds like a TEMPEST in a teapot to me.
Of course by then, I was so far in front of them, that it again was black magic to them
According to Clarke's Third Law, that means your web development skills are sufficiently advanced. Kudos!
I use Notepad, MS Paint, and my browser to do my web design.
Now get off my lawn you hooligans!
What are you doing using a GUI? That just slows things down! I use nano to create my Gopher pages, and that's the way I likes it!
Think I'm joking? Check out my Slashdot user number...
Okay, I'm joking. :)
I'm ready for the biggest Minesweeper playfield EVAR! PH3AR M3!
To be fair, mentioning you are heterosexual should also get you banned. Fair is fair!
Perhaps this year, Linux will be ready for the desktop.
Yo, dude, don't bash linux!

Remove the head, destroy the brain.
I think I see a flaw in your cunning plan: They don't sell 4,000 mile long extension cords at Home Depot.
DIY and make your own!
If not, I'm not interested.

Watch the Outer Limits episode, "Final Exam."
