Hmmm, sounds like added feature for the Power Up on KBD/Mouse stuff in the BIOS... Some boards let you turn that off - check in the power MGMT stuff to see if turning all that off helps.

The idea is that if you are maxing out at 30fps, then when a more complicated scene (player turning, multiple weapon fire, smoke grenades, other players in field of view) your rate will drop well below 30... if your rate is 60fps, the times when it will drop to a visibly "chunky" speed are fewer and further between (on average). So, if you have a base rate of 150fps, you should be able to handle just about any event without noticable slowdown in drawing.

That being said, I just upgraded my 16MB TNT (original) to a 64MB GF2MX400 recently, and it is more than suitable for the 3D games I play (mostly sports sims and RTS types). The only difference is that I can now render Yankee Stadium at 1280x1024+ with better detail. Playability hasn't changed much.

A good way to get a quick estimate is to view the capacity usage percentage on a UPS (via monitoring). APC Back-UPS Pro and Smart-UPS models support this, so you could check via the software (nice tools) what is being used, and calculate the VAs or Watts being used... or you could in-line a Fluke with your power line.

Once you know the power being pulled, you can extrapolate that out to a month/year, and factor in your local $/kWH. Depending on where you are, and what you are using, I'd expect $5-20/month...

To play a little Devil's Advocate...

Since we are talking about the LSB, maybe the /.SB should include having all posts in English (still the dominant language on the Internet... for another 3-5 years or so). Standardizing on English would lead to less confusion, mis-directed anger, and would also promote the globalization of English so there in the future when we finish our warp-capable ships, we can all speak the same language (which Star Trek has shown us is English), and wear the same uniform (to present a formidable team appearance). Since the E.U. has standardized on the Euro (mirroring the U.S.$), maybe they should go ahead and formalize a standard language, too - Eurenglish. Besides, since English has been formed by absorbing other languages and terms from other languages, it is only fitting that we start standardization here on /. - most of the world's techincal elite speak English already (a completely unfounded statement), and more and more children are getting English early in their school curriculum (yes, even in Compton). Besides, "foreign" languages are just like encryption, and everyone knows that encryption is only used by criminals...

On the other hand, maybe a link to translate the post into $USER_PREFERED_LANGUAGE would be helpful, with a preset for the language, and a selection during the posting screen. Además, es agradable poder escribir y leer adentro otros lenguajes de vez en cuando, incluso si no son mi lenguaje primario. (Apologies to those more fluent than I, if I hacked that up a bit...
