    The conspiracy theorists are playing right along by saying there are no Americans mentioned in the Panama Papers so it must have been scrubbed, despite (1) hundreds of Americans being named in them, and (2) you don't have to go offshore to hide money. The US works just fine for hiding money.

  3. Thee's a big difference between downtown Montreal and the Montreal Metropolitan Area. Last I looked, most of them are not called suburbs any more - they've been merged into Montreal as boroughs. Lucky me, I live in DDO, which regained its independence via referendum.

  5. With political correctness running rampant, it is harder to identify the assholes. That being the case, it's also harder to hold them publicly to account. Would you rather someone told you to your face that they hated you, or just spread stories behind your back while taking advantage of your good nature?

    Let's see. GCC is not really the original GCC - that project died of being a clusterf*ck and EGCC was renamed GCC.

    LLVM and Clang are not GCC, and GCC's popularity is going down.

    Also, software that is licensed under the GPL is not necessarily owned or controlled by the Stalman Cabal. Much of it is in fact dual-licensed.

    And you've obviously never had to write FreeBSD software or you would know that in many cases it's just a few header files that need to be conditionally added.

    cisgender is a bullsh*t term coined 20 years ago to replace "normal." The same way that transgender became a much more inclusive term to include cross-dressers and everyone else under the protective umbrella of transsexual, Hint: cross-dressing is a sexual fetish; the majority of "transgenders" are purely lifestyle choices, not treatable medical conditions.

    And they never notice how labeling something as a micro-aggression is itself a micro-aggression. As are "safe spaces" (saying that whole classes of people can't be trusted with other classes of people) and "trigger warnings" (about as useless as writing ***SPOILER ALERT***, it just makes people more curious).

    Political correctness needs to die.

    Don't be silly. There's a difference between hacking the chip to determine protocols and just eavesdropping on communications from/to the device, so no DMCA foul. You're not trying to copy the chip, just the functionality. And once that's done, create your own work-alike and solder it in place.

    You can change the physical rom chip. You can't crack the original rom. 2 different things. You're not looking to crack the rom, just listening in to the communications protocols to design your own rom. No code misappropriation or hacking involved.

    Look, we were already over this earlier this week, with the story that lied about them bricking the hubs. There's nothing to stop anyone from reverse-engineering the protocol and getting the devices to work as intended again - nothing but money. This is what you get for trusting the cloud.

    You wanted an app that could work from your phone from anywhere else in the world? Either run your own server, pay someone else to, or do without the remote functionality.

    Yet another IoT fail.

    I guess you didn't notice the "it will not be resurrected in its previous form" part. That doesn't mean it will not be resurrected in another form, such as a subscription service, or sold off. Otherwise, the "in its previous form" would be both redundant and misleading.

    One way or another, they hope to monetize it.
