This always seemed kind of weird to me too. This is a story that supposedly takes place on a Grand Galactic Scale, with millions of planets, trillions of sentient beings, wars thousands of light years across, and then something like five main characters determine the fate of everyone and everything.

And R2D2 always seems to find himself everywhere there is action.

Just look at our own history - Hitler - one guy out of billions who determined the fate of the world.

Why? Because programs in those days could do the job with far fewer resources? Because layout based on a standard character cell size made things easier to lay out? Because the programs would work even over slow serial connections, without being the bandwidth hogs today's programs are (imagine never having to worry about busting a 1 gig mobile data cap)? Because the limited screen resources meant less time fiddling about with your boss trying to get things pixel-perfect, then changing their mind?

Real feminists aren't anti-male. They have fathers as well as mothers, sons as well as daughters, brothers as well as sisters, uncles as well as aunts, and are as willing to stand up for equal rights for both men and women. Of course, that doesn't fit in with the new "textus receptus" of the SJWs and extreme feminists, whose radical exclusionary policies do not let men participate because they are "the enemy", and women who want dialog instead of complaining are traitors or have been co-opted or brainwashed.

You can't argue with a cult. And real feminists want everywhere to be considered a "safe space" for both sexes.

Read their crowdfunding site. That's where I got the info from - there is no way in hell that they have spent all the shipping budget, since they planned to have shipping done through February. Can't let this comment go. Saying "Women shouldn't have to tame their behaviour because some guys can't handle it" is not indoctrinated propaganda. It's stating a simple fact.

So let's reverse it - "Men shouldn't have to tame their behaviour because some women can't handle it." See how stupid that sounds?

This whole line of discussion ignores the fact that, even when you take reasonable precautions, bad things happen

Most sexual assaults don't happen on college campuses, many don't involve alcohol use by the victim, many victims don't even know the perp, and often the victims end up with such low self-esteem that they end up wondering if perhaps they were in part to blame. Avoidance isn't always (or even usually) possible.

None of the victims I know were sexually assaulted on a college campus. They range from pre-teens to adults going about their regular business to one woman in her 70s in her home. None of these were reported except the last, and that was only after a lot of fear of the consequences to her marriage of reporting it (the guy ran away when her HUGE dog walked into the room and started growling at him). These are emotional, not logical, problems.Saying "you should just report it and not worry" may seem logical, but it's only easy to say if you haven't been there.

This is one reason why such reporting mechanisms won't produce much in the way of results. It doesn't address this issue, which is that it's emotionally hard to bring yourself to report this to the authorities, with everything that comes with it.

By definition, people don't consent to being raped. However, people who rape aren't going to be stopped by "no means no." You could be dressed in a burlap potato sack and they're still going to try to take what they want, so it's not about how you dress. Taking precautions is reasonable behavior, same as looking both ways before crossing the street, or making sure cross traffic has stopped when your light turns green. Sure, you're in the right - you may even be "dead" right - which doesn't change the outcome.

Their variable costs haven't gone up 30x. First, they were ordering bodies in batches, one for each color scheme. They only got one (or maybe two) batches. Same thing with shipping - they haven't shipped the bulk of the orders, so shipping costs are also not an excuse for "no money". Also, if you read their postings, they were still planning on hand-assembling ALL of them, over a period of several months, which is why they said some people would have to wait until February. In other words, they didn't change their assembly process. Since they haven't assembled the vast majority of them, most of that money should also be floating around.

They weren't planning on hiring extra staff for the increased production requirements (even though many backers suggested they do so), just sticking with their original plans and extending the time. 5 days a week, 40 hours total, no additional staff. So there was no "scaling up production" issue. Oh, and they told everyone that they were taking a 3-week Christmas vacation. No crunch time for these dudes, not in their work ethic.

They've said there's no money for refunds for those who pre-ordered, or for those who were backers. So it's all been spent while only minimal production has taken place, and most of the parts haven't been ordered.

They've blown through the money, continuing even when simple accounting would have shown that they couldn't meet their commitments. Why? Gotta keep paying themselves for their amazing leadership and ingenuity, I guess ... Should have been put into receivership when it was obvious that from a financial point they had spent so much that there wasn't enough for the rest of the parts, or shipping. People would have at least gotten some money back.

Obviously, since they have yet to produce a product that works anywhere near spec (or that works at all, really), and they've only shipped a few (so no 648k in shipping), have only received a fraction of the parts (there were different runs scheduled for different color schemes) so no 912k for manufacturing), so where is all that money that they haven't spent on shipping and manufacturing?

the answer is "Most of what the campaign made was already earmarked to known costs - each pledge did not make them a lot of money, because what they were doing was expensive!

If the money was earmarked for known costs, and most of those unknown costs have yet to be incurred (almost nothing manufactured by their supplier, almost nothing shipped), that earmarked money should be somewhere.

What really happened was that they bit off way more than they could chew, had a lot more money to blow on it so "no problem with delays - we can burn through this wad of cash", and for 3 years lived off that money. Now that it's gone, they've put the business into receivership. Must have taken lessons from SCO.
