A bunch of 14-year-old wankers think they're entitled to have fun at my expense by 1) dog piling my comments with their juvenile comments; 2) creating fake accounts to post as me while abusing me at the same time; and 3) posting my name, email address, website URLs, and/or superimposing an image of my head on dick pics on Russian image websites. It's only been 3.5 months.
Cripes, #1 is just normal slashdot behaviour for anyone who attracts attention. As for posting my name, email address, etc., we had this thing called a phone book that gave everybody's name, address, and phone number. When Briana Wu was posting all that fake drama about being doxxed, I posted all my contact info in the same discussion. Result? Not a single phone call, text, or mail. As for "name and email address", I post under my legal name, and my email address is right there in my profile. Only cowards post pseudo-anonymously or anonymously. And they're stupid because there really is no such thing as anonymity online anyway, and it will only get worse in the future. It's the nature of the beast. Be different - meet the future head-on.
In all fairness, it was likely a bunch of old white guys that passed this law.
You mean Republicans. And Idaho is your typical republican state - it ranks 44th out of 50 states in terms of per capita income. Why would anyone on a tech site even consider Idaho? Sounds like a career-limiting move.
This is probably an attempt to make Idaho more "business-friendly." Problem is, talent that deals with IP is mobile, and good luck getting them to move to Idaho in the first place.
ITech companies need a pool of talent to draw from - nobody is going to set up business where they can't hire any locals without getting sued. So, Idaho, you just shot yourself in the foot.
And if you accidentally get suckered into such a deal, just move to a jurisdiction outside Idaho for your next job. Unless you're into potato farming, it shouldn't be hard, and you'll be eager to move elsewhere after a while anyway. After all, Idaho pays 30% less than the national average. Only 3 out of 44 counties beat the US average.
That's the price for using my name and likeness on Slashdot.
spam-free pdf You're free to put affiliate links if you want, but it IS spam, and as such, has a negative impact on your reputation.
I've up-modded a few of your posts because I look at each post on it's merit, no on the person's overall reputation, but I won't even consider the spammy ones for an up-mod. (blog spam doesn't deserve up-mods. No, I don't down-mod them - I'd rather concentrate on up-mods, as per the guidelines).
I look at it this way - people aren't attacking me for spamming, but for what I am, or for a serious differences of opinion - and I'm okay with that.
For those who want to post spammy links, there's Facebook and Twitter. Nothing of value will be lost on either site.
If you believe I pull shit like modding using a different account, flag it. I have no problem with them posting their results. Here's a clue - I never have. I don't need to. I'm always at the karma cap. You, on the other hand, aren't even smart enough to realize how stupid your argument is, so you blame others. Grow up, take responsibility for your shitty logic.
It would be nice if you bothered to look up the reputation of Thai prisons before shit-posting. Not exactly 1st-world conditions (then again, neither are many US prisons).
Basically, this is an admission that the average programmer is fairly shitty. Then again, you don't want average programmers working on anything important, so by sticking with c, you're not going to get the "rust, rust, baby" programmers.
Or have merchants offer their own "cash back" scheme for people who use debit cards. It's still a rebate, which the credit card companies try to discourage, but what the heck...
$10,000, and you can't take cash in the future? Less than $30 a day of cash sales gives more than their "award". Plus, you're going to be giving them that $10,000 in transaction fees and then some - especially with cards that will ding merchants for credit card "cash back" programs.
Most merchants aren't that stupid. They know the cost of doing business. Many also like giving discounts for cash.
12. Unlimited supply of Mars Bars. And let's not forget Milky Way.
13. Safe haven for all the democrats who said they would move to Canada after the election, but didn't, and are sick of being derided for it.
14. Way way off-shore tax haven for the 0.01%
15. No Obamacare.
You haven't seen the Christians killing gays in Uganda and elsewhere in Africa then, being pushed by the anti-gay agenda of US religious organizations. Stop being so ignorant.
How many so-called christians are still arguing against same-sex marriage? About wanting to be able to legally discriminate against gays and lesbians? About wanting to tell transsexual women they have to expose themselves to danger by having to pee in men's bathrooms?
Also, the 2015 Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood shootings left 3 dead and 9 wounded. The killer was a delusional fundamentalist christian, probably stirred up by all the anti-planned parenthood hype the fundies have been pushing. So whether he was "really" a christian or not, fundie christians have to bear much of the responsibility for the killings. Same as they do for other violent acts. Same as the pastor calling for hunting permits
You're also being totally ignorant about all the killings done by Christians in Uganda - pushed by American evangelicals. And trying to export it to other parts of the continent, including South Africa.
And the baptist minister who, during the election campaign, said to kill the gays as the cure for AIDS. And of course, there's the rampant pedophilia in many Christian churches. More of his rants here. A chip off the old Westboro Baptist block.
Freedom of speech is not a license to foment hate. Fortunately, other countries are banning such stupidity.
And as someone else who was formally trained, I call bullshit. Women are not equals in fundamentalist churches, neither in doctrine nor in practice. Come back when 50% of fundamentalist evangelical pastors are women. And when women can have an abortion without being stigmatized (either that, or men getting pregnant in equal numbers). And when women are no longer encouraged to "submit to their husbands" after abuse, but instead told to kick the bum's ass to the curb and get a divorce. THESE are examples of the current Christian Taliban. Same as condoning child beating ("spare, the rod, spoil the child"), even though doing the same to an adult will get you an assault charge. The Christian church is a patriarchy, reinforcing the idea that the woman is subservient to the man, that the man is the head of the family, and that wives are to obey their husbands. Heck, it's right there in the New Testament. Paul was a misogynist.
Wrong. They're both political parties. I don't see either party writing checks for NASA from the donations their supporters give them. Take your own advice - don't be such a partisan ass. You'll be less stressed and live longer.
NASA's heyday was the race to the moon - pushed by Kennedy, continued by Johnson. Both democrats. Nixon, who was elected in 1968, wound it down, cancelling funding for Apollo 18 - 20. The first cancellation, Apollo 20, was announced in January of 1970, and Nixon even wanted to cancel 15 and 16.
Everything since has been relatively anemic in terms of bang for the buck. Especially the space shuttle, which Nixon pushed.
The moon has a few advantages over North Dakota as a refuge when the planet gets too hot. No super-hurricanes. No desperate people trying to get in. No mutated or weaponized viruses or bacteria. No natural enemies. Out of reach of most weapons systems, while easier to literally throw large rocks at anyone on earth, so easily defendable. Dependable solar energy cycle - no clouds or other weather. Also, as for Venus, the temperature in the upper clouds is Earth-normal. We can also get oxygen and water from the H2SO4 sulfuric acid clouds. Gravity is earth-normal, so less risk of bone demineralization. Again, isolation means harder for others to attack, no natural enemies, etc.
Then there's Ganymede and Titan. Think of the view...
There's nothing humans could ever do to this planet that would make Mars, or any other planet, a more desirable place to live.
But there's plenty humans can do that would make the Moon a more desirable place to live. Or even the stratosphere of Venus. And there's always going to be some who would volunteer to go to Uranus.
1. Tell Trump there's coal on Mars - jobs for coal miners!
2. Start a rumour that Mars has no vaccination regulations - kills 2 birds with one stone as all the antivaxxers pour their money into a modern version of the B Ark.
3. Flatly declare that it is impossible. Someone will come along to prove you wrong
4. Tell the MRAs about the martian slave women. Then tell the SJWs about the MRAs wanting the martian slave women. See who gets to Mars first.
5. Tell the Christian and Muslim Taliban about the martian slave women walking around "all bare neked".
6. Tell the GOP that Martian women have multiple pussies to grab.
7. Tell the states that have passed bathroom bills that there is no such thing as a Martian male, so there's no such thing as a martian transsexual wanting to pee in their women's toilets.
8. "Gotta build a wall on Mars to keep the illegal aliens at bay."
9. Get Alex Jones and Breitbart to say that NASA doesn't lobby for enough money because Mars is full of Republican martians and refusing to go to Mars is a democratic plot to suppress voters.
10. "Russia and China and even India are all going. There's going to be a "planet gap" between the US and those countries that makes the missile gap look like a blip in history."
I use my real name, and I've had just as bad. I realize that the people doing it are really, really lame, no-life monkeys who, as long as they're wasting their time on me, aren't going after someone else. Plus it's really pitiful when you find out that the guy doing the harassing is an obese 50-something virgin, and in another case just an obese idiot who got fired over using government computers to cyber-stalk me, then after multiple warnings, pretended they were still doing so from government computers.
Get rid of anonymity on the net and people will be a lot less likely to harass anyone.
The building, which opened in 2008 and was touted as the most luxurious tower in San Francisco, became a beacon of the city’s burgeoning wealth, attracting tech millionaires, venture capitalists, and even the San Francisco 49ers retired quarterback Joe Montana.
The 58-story tower's shine faded on May 10, 2016, when Agabian attended a homeowners association meeting and was informed that the building had sunk 16 inches into the earth and tilted over 15 inches at its tip and 2 inches at the base, according to suits filed by residents and the city of San Francisco. “You can imagine how distressed we were to know that, for one, our lifetime investment and savings are at risk,” she said. “And we have no idea whether or not there’s a fix to it, and if there is a fix to it, what it will entail.”

Spellcheck not working again?
Funny you should bring up San Francisco - it has a great example of how engineers screw up
The building, which opened in 2008 and was touted as the most luxurious tower in San Francisco, became a beacon of the city’s burgeoning wealth, attracting tech millionaires, venture capitalists, and even the San Francisco 49ers retired quarterback Joe Montana.
The building, meanwhile, continues to sink.
It may not even be fixable.
As you age, your eyes will normally get less nearsighted - so in theory you should be able to see better as you age. Unless something else screws up. Live long enough, it will.
