We have user mods here, and I'm pretty much always at the karma cap; those who hate me for what I am have their own problems. Sure, I've gotten a lot of negative, off-topic replies, but this is the internet - why would I worry about what some anonymous user (or even the not-so-anonymous) users say, when I can use the occasion to perhaps present the other side of the story to them? You know - a teaching moment...
And this is why facebook et al need a "don't like" button in addition to a "like" button. If you're used to only getting positive feedback, you get a distorted view of the world and your place in it.
"The inherit risk is that the organization is accountable and accepts the risks if a major bug is encountered within any of the open source applications they are using. "
There's no liability for patches (except for intentionally malicious ones) to an open source application. If there were, nobody would submit one.
It was reported a few days ago by an IBM partner. I saw it in the firehose, voted it up...
The problem wasn't exclusive to slashdot, and it's now fixed. They really should do it as a story.
Meanwhile, back on-topic...... it's good to see all the work being done towards fixing retinal problems. Right now, the "retina" only works with ultraviolet light. Imagine if they could get it to work with infrared? Night vision!
Multiple intrusion points makes more sense given the amount of data that they claim to have swiped (funneling all that data through one point would risk getting someone's attention and, given what GOP got, they're probably not that stupid).
However, it's the standard in most of the common law countries. And it makes sense if you think about it. In the example I make elsewhere, what about someone who maliciously "outs" a co-worker to get them fired? Intent counts.
I just find the claim of the "picture of the century" to be arrogant in the extreme.
We're only in the second decade of the 21st century. We don't know what will happen in the next 80-someodd years. In 1914, nobody could predict the pictures from the moon.
For example, what if there's a picture of a "first contact" 50 years from now?
BTW Canada has access to the exact same depictions of violence as the US, and yet they are not exactly known for their violent society.....

A petition with 40,000 signatures is hardly "a tiny but well organized minority".
However, knowing how petitions are gathered, I would bet the majority of those signed never even saw the game. I remember being asked to sign a petition to ban a movie. I asked the woman if she had seen it - "No but I heard about it on the radio from people who saw it and they want to get a petition to ban it!"
So I told her that, since it hadn't even been released yet (it was still in the editing stage) that she had been lied to and shouldn't be spreading gossip.
Of course, nothing changed... she just went around collecting more signatures... and I was suddenly "in favor" of a movie I hadn't even seen!
The flight was cancelled after 3 years, so even traveling at the speed of light, it wouldn't have gotten to us if it had started from Proxima Centauri.
And then there's the whole problem of, as your speed increases, impacts from dust and micrometeorites become a serious problem. It'll do a lot more than just scraping the paint off the hull.
"My sister was in hospital recently and posted it on Facebook. Most of her friends, family and myself hit the like button."
I wouldn't advise doing that when someone posts "My spouse/parent/child died" or "I just lost my job today" or "I think I'm being cheated on."

Here you go

If it's government coffee, no thanks, I'll bring my own coffee-maker.
"After most of that ice melts, thanks to global warming, other interesting discoveries are to be made."
You mean like this?
The plaintiffs lied under oath, so I think that they have more to worry about than whether they'll get their money back from the lawyers.
Well yeah, I look down on people like yourself who think bestiality is okay, especially for the ridiculous reasons you cited.
I guess the thrill of big fees in a class-action suit made them forget to do some elementary checking.
Well, seeing as with Citizens United corporations are now people, maybe tech workers need to lobby to be considered as people too ...

Tell that to the english and the french.
Maybe Bennett can provide a summary and share his thoughts?
Sure, he can provide a summary, but "sharing his thoughts" would require we actually his submissions.
Unless you're suggesting multiple intrusion points

I already did elsewhere in the thread. Several times. Included links to the Quebec Civil Code, and the article numbers in that code.

what is raw footage and accounting doing on the same system?
Who says both were on the same system?
by another who obtained the subject matter disclosed directly or indirectly from the inventor or a joint inventor; or
Illlegal theft of records doesn't count as disclosure.

Hey, at lest we get to claim the title of "most dangerous species in large groups". Makes me proud to be human!
I thought the bubonic plague held that title.
