no, its not writing at all.. mike and the bots are as witty and sarcastic as ever, but the movies that are being given to Bad Brains (they can only use movies that Sci-Fi has licensed to them, sorta limits what their choices are..) are just not funny with their type of humor applied to them. Thats why I believe that if the show were to continue in (somewhat) its old glory it'd have to be picked up by Comedy Central again... fat chance of that happening.;P

then you havent seen the right episodes! I admit, since the move to sci-fi, its lost what made it what it was, but mike has his moments.. but if you want a joel-era quality episode with mike in it, find a copy of Laserblast (the final comedy central episode). Its easily one of the best of the epi's, definitely Mikes best. The movie was pretty good too, but not nearly as.

I think you've missed the point completely.. and I'll paraphrase the theme song to make you understand the error (the original song;)
"They'll send him cheesy movies... The worst that they can find.. He'll have to sit and watch them all and they'll monitor his mind.."
now I admit, having an episode with a popular film woulda been funny.. but Dances with Wolves? Come on, if you're going for bad feature film to turn into a MST episode, go for Titanic. You dont get much cheesier, or popular, than that.
Justin "No wonder we never found the escape pod, its hidden in a box of Hamdingers... nobody likes Hamdingers." - Gypsy
the "long lost Thanksgiving episode" you speak of actually, was aired over and over on Comedy Central... It was episode 1 of season (I think) 7 ("Night of the BloodBeast" or something similar).. the only thing different is they had replaced the short segments between commercials with ones specifically for the holiday, and it had a slightly different opening if I remember right.. I just with that Comedy Central would still do the Turkey Day marathon.. was a highlight of the year for me for about 4 years *grin*
btw, to anyone who knows, what was Forresters sidekick's name before Frank? was it Larry?
Justin "Wanda Cannon, now thats a porn name if I ever saw one!...Not that I read those type of publications.." - Crow T. Robot
The people at Bad Brains, afaik, are in the same situation they were in after leaving Comedy Central... the only difference is that comedy central was making a huge mistake losing one of its few (at the time) successful shows.. When that all came about, originally the Brains were thinking about doing some licensing with Rhino and releasing episodes straight to video if noone picked them up. There might be a possibility that this is just the end of this era of episodes, and they have other plans for the show, but I doubt it will have the following it would have when at least most of the original cast was still on the show.
I wouldnt quite say that the Sci-Fi broadcast part of the series is the "top of their game"... ever since it left comedy central, its been kinda going downhill... Dont get me wrong, its still IMO probably the best tv show on the air today, but the first season with Mike, and almost anything with Joel is better than most of the new episodes...
Yeah, the apes are humorous.. but they're not TV's Frank and Dr. Forrester.
This'll make seti@home useless now.. as soon as some ET gets his mailbox filled with unsolicited e-mail, they'll rule out our planet as one of intelligence...;)
After reading Metcalfe's most recent article, and thinking back to his previous 2, I began to wonder.. Is perhaps "from the ether" not a reference to his creation of ethernet, but instead a reference to Metcalfe's substance abuse problems?
Ever seen Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas? I believe some of his rants could have come from an ether-induced haze...;)
so, because sgi has decided to move into a lower-end workstation market, as well as their previous markets, they dont deserve credit? All that they're doing, is getting their part in a lucrative market with the x86 boxes.. they still sell mips systems, and still packed with irix to boot;P
not to say I dont agree that Metcalfe made a few erroneous mistakes in his 'article', but what he may have been referring to as java might have been the JavaOS project. I've got a friend who's working on it, and according to him, once some kinks get worked out it could quite possibly be the next revolutionary os..
I thought it was pretty good, but not terriffic.. for some reason, it reminded me vaguely of Late Shift, the made-for-tv movie about the late night talk show wars. Of course, that one was quite good..;)
Anthony Michael Hall may be washed up, but I dont think they coulda chosen a better Gates =D

and why shouldnt they?/. is an open forum, anyone running windows has every right to be here as well.. just cuz you might not agree on their os choice doesnt mean they might not like to keep up with whats going on in the 'geek world'../. isnt exclusive to linux users, or users of the various unices even. its for anyone who's curious..
(I know its offtopic, but I tire of how/.ers associate anyone who uses a MS product as 'the enemy)
I was just lookin' through the sunday ads from the paper (CompUSA, Computer City, Best Buy, etc) and I found that id is selling quake and quake 2 for linux packaged now..
seriously tho, I realize that, but it seems in the last month or so, the majority of posts have turned from less attempted discussion to more flame wars.. and I finally decided to say something about it =)
just because the distro uses rpm packaging, doesnt mean you have to install everything by rpms.. source tarballs are almost always available as well.. play with em to your hearts content =) I think that the rpms are there for a majority of their users, who dont really care about the source (in other words, they're not programmers;), but almost any program available in rpms has a source tarball or at least a srpm available..
hehe, sorry 'bout that then.. yah, I agree with you tho.. we're shooting ourselves in the foot with the petty redhat vs the world, gnome vs kde, glibc2.* vs libc5 etc arguments.. people see this, and think that this is how the community operates, and for the 'world domination' that so many linux fanatics talk so much about to occur, they need to stop the petty arguments
in what, that they (redhat) have done good for the community? I dont need to talk to any representative.. who do you think funds the gnome project? guess who has done some major contributions for xfree86? I needn't talk to a redhat official to know that they're not completely focused on their own financial gain.
I dont exactaly believe this.. redhat makes updates for software public, and they've done quite a few things for the linux community other than just their own financial gain. No question, they base a lot on their financial gain, but thats more in marketing.. I bet if slack were to get commercial success, and get 50 bucks a pop for a boxed set, the author(s) would leap at the opportunity. Redhat is just the one that has caught the brunt of the commercialization of linux
once again, further proof of my point. linux is linux, wether its debian, slackware, redhat, suse, turbolinux, roll-your-own, or one of the many redhat clones. Think of it as music. if you like, say, techno, but you dont like, say, punk, do you trash everyone who listens to punk? no, you let them listen to what they choose, and you listen to what you choose. all that distrobutions are are a choice of what 'breed' of linux you wish to run. no version is any better than the next.. it all depends on the admin =)
I'm getting sick of all the closed-minded people on/... its another distro, which has a purpose of making linux accessable to people who may not have as much computer expertise as others. Yes, its a 'redhat hack', but its simplified enough for less knowledgable people can install it, but not enough that they dont learn anything. calling anyone 'lame' for using it is pretty lame in itself, and pretty much a waste of posting space =P

And, btw, I agree.. but i think that linux advocacy is insane to begin with... My question is, what decides someone as the "man of the century"?
Also, I'm not certian that Linus'd wanna be Man of the Century, with Hitler up there in 3rd...

how refreshing.. a thread to a story that actually doesnt start with some idiot screaming "FIRST POST!#$@$!@#$"
