In fact, how many people can name even one astronaut that is currently active in the space program?
Most people in Sweden can, since Christer Fuglesang, the first (and so far the only) Swedish astronaut, was up on a mission to ISS last year (the STS-116 Mission).
He is also one of few people who are both trained as a russian cosmonaut and american astronaut!
I use it almost every day... The Swedish Radio (http://sr.se/) uses Real Audio or Windows Crap Audio to stream their radio stations which really only leaves one choise if you want to listen to them: Real Audio. Streaming WMA can't automatically adjust its bitrate to available bandwith and over all sounds a lot worse than the real stream on the same bitrate. BBC also uses Real Audio to stream their radio sations, which I listen to occationally.
On Linux I use the official RealPlayer for Linux and on Windows I use RealAlternative with Media Player Classic.
Of course it would nice if official (state owned) companies like SR and BBC could offer open formats like Vorbis to stream their audio, but neither of them claims to have plans for it...
As I see it, there's a huge difference in an earthquake and what happened a year ago. Natural disasters like earthquakes are out of all human control and there's realy nothing you can do about it other than helping the victims.
The issue isn't about how many people that died, but what caused their deaths.
What makes the terrorist attacks on NY and Washinton so horrible and uncomprehensible is the fact that it was performed by human beings and evidently it was very carefully planned. Even if only a thousand persons had died that day, it would still be a matter of unlimited discussion since it brought upon us a completely new view of what such terror groups are capable of. We're all "used" to suicide bombers, car bombs and such methods and their powers are limited. The use of living humans in an air plane as a missile to kill other living humans is just... horrible and people need discuss it to be able to comprehend what really happened and why it happened.
It's the same for me. I live in Sweden, so it's not as close to home, but virtually all the news sites on the web (including the good swedish ones) where down, and I remember coming to slashdot to read the first hand reports here. It really makes you think about the power of the net. I could read reports from people who actually was on location and saw what happened only minutes after it really happened.
I especially remember some posts hopefully saying that it probably were cargo planes (and thus "minimizing" casualties), since a reported eyewitnes hadn't noticed any windows on the side of the air craft. Unfortunately it was just hopful "roumors"...

Me and my girlfriend did most of our initial flirting on ICQ as well... and the same can be said about several of our friends. :)
Most of my contacts are online today and doesn't seem to be affected by this "mass delete misshap"...

Yes Meebo is great when you use a computer that doesn't have any decent IM client(s) installed and I use it frequently for just that reason.
However, on my Linux box I use Gaim and on Windows I use Trillian.

Anyway.. to the east of the nothern-most circular things there's what looks like an air field close to a collection of buildings with a rather hefty fire going on: http://local.google.com/?t=k&ll=27.67988,22.45124
