    400 million are enrolled with 25 million enrolled last month alone. The program is radically changing the distribution of benefits to many people who were promised them but never saw the access. Many people discuss the ability to fake the biometrics and while there are chances of this occurring it is a fairly complex process and by changing the systems so they are only transferring cash direct to accounts controlled by the individual rather then relying on someone else to be an intermediary creates a lot of freedom to the individual! Being a part of UID was an incredible experience that along with touching so many people truly effected my life as well.

    There are several projects in India that are changing the way we interact with the government.

    Well they would just be plain wrong. UID has over 250 million people all 10 fingerprints both iris and a facial scan and is growing by almost 1 million per day. So clearly UAE is not looking very hard.

    In India we spent $1500 per ear for our daughter for the top of the line. The problem in the US is at least double the price for ever thing!!

    already happening checkout the realID law... it is a data sharing and standardization for DMVs across the country.

    Plus the real cost of the system is having to capture all the data in the field. The incremental cost is minimal to capture 1 vs 10 and the improved de-duplication and long term viability of the system is improved by capture all.

    It is actually important to capture all the fingerprints because you do not know which finger will be the best over a period of time. Often the best finger for transactions ends up being the little finger since it is the least likely to have damage or get worn off over time.

    Lets be clear almost every job has non-reimbursable training and supplies that are required to stay competitive and employable. I have never had any of my certification class paid for by a company. I am always maintaining servers to improve and change my skill sets that are outside of the company so I can be more marketable or can make my job easier.

    I think this is where most non-unionized and unionized employees have a significant breakdown seeing eye to eye. I feel it is my responsibility to do these things not the role of my employer.

    Actually most fingerprint scanners can detect heat and need fresh oil. While it is possible as proven in nigeria most high quality devices are able to detect non-living fingers.

    As far as the myth busters episode fingerprint scanners and software are set at a range of false acceptance rates vs false rejection rates. The lower the false acceptance rate the more false rejects you have. The device they used had a very high false acceptance rate meaning it was easy to fool ... it also was a cheap capacity device not an optical such as the ones used in most government applications.

    We are starting to rollout ATMs that require fingerprint verification against your UID/Aadhaar number in India.

    Many countries have a printed fingerprint on the card but that is effectively useless. The systems need to have it stored in a non-compressed image so the system can match the minutia.

    They currently have limited ability to do a 1:N matching for the captured fingerprints. As well as they are not currently doing any deduplication. The national ID is rather ineffective. The services tied to it are only doing photo matching not biometric matching which means it is easy to fake the id.

    We enrolled almost 150M in a 18 months in UID/Aadhaar. 180M is just the testing phase for a MASSIVE program. By 2018 UID will have covered almost all of the 1.2 Billion Indians and we are capturing all 10 fingers, both irises and a high resolution photo of every India deduplicated and verified. Now that is Massive.

    Live sports is difficult but for the NFL there is NFL gamepass for international users that streams full HD live of all games. It is Awesome. Yes it is $100+ for the year but you also get all the nfl channel content as well. I think it is an additional $40 for the playoffs and superbowl. You can also just buy the games or the teams you want to watch.

    I have done this for two years and it is much better than watching it on normal cable. When I am back in the states I just route my traffic through a proxy setup in Singapore or France.

    They actually do not have to adhere to Reg E not being a banking or financial institution.

    I have worked on a few accounts where this has happened and unlike the comment above about ruining your credit the problem with it is then your bank puts you on a list that does not allow you to open a bank account with any other bank. Sort of a non-banked black list.

    Basically your only recourse is to pay the bank fees and beg paypal. If they say no you have to go the states attorney route. Good luck with that.

    Actually PayPal and Ebay have been very crafty in avoiding the "Bank" or "Financial Institution" claim.

    They are in constant battles with state and federal organizations trying to make sure that they are not deemed a bank as then they would have to play by the rules of the banks. Such as limiting theft, having to take insurance against false or fake transactions.

    I have used adblock for a while and currently I do not block all ads. As an example I keep the context non obtrusive ads from say google it is the annoying pop-ups and big ads that have no relevance or take up to many cycles on my machine.     Right now? Do you mean the internet a dispersed segmented network with no central point of failure developed by DARPA? DARPA=Defense Advanced Research Project Agency sounds like a military technology but maybe I misunderstand the word Defense and the .mil extension is always a question if it really is Military ;p

    As far as the past three years you have got to be kidding. You may not agree with why we went in but if anything we are very far and supportive for religious and political differences. Hell you were allowed to post a comment like this I guess in China they would have taken you and locked you a way for a few years.

    Being alumni of the ivy I can say I have had no real advantage in the direct job market because of my school but the network that I was able to develop while at school is second to none.

    There is a idiom of ivy arrogance that the only difference between the education you get at Harvard vs other schools is that at other schools you learn about history at Harvard you are taught by the people that made history and sitting in a room with others that will make history.

    Actually the Ditch and not listen is old and not used any more... they record the entire conversation and then have a thrid party edit the conversation to allow only the parts that pertain to the case.

    I for one have DRM on a chip tied to hardware in 1998

    As well as a lot of work on DRM at the per play level of file access that communicates on a per play fee.

    The biggest issues with this is that now that Dell, Compaq, Apple and more are going into schools and signing support contracts all to often the schools no longer control the computers.

    The computers are istalled with x software and are not allowed to install anything else without violating the support agreement that the school pays 10-20% per year on.
