You nailed the point--the editors are trying to step in and decide things when it's the job of the moderators. Right now, the thread is rising above 0 again...let's see how long that stays.

The parent had a +1 Interesting, and now I see it's been slapped down again (135 now). Is there really some mod just sitting there monitoring the thread in order to bring down its rating all the time?
What happens if the car, for whatever reason, becomes malfunctional? Could it careen out of control into other cars? Could the computer system be overridden? If so, what is to prevent passengers from doing it all the time?
The audio has one or more of the following problems:
Clicks, pops, noises, skipping, etc.
Songs did not start and stop when the skip button was pushed.
The fast forward and rewind functions did not work.
You were unable to play all of the songs.
There were long delays between songs or after a button was pressed for a particular function.
Funny, those are the very reasons I started LEGALLY backing up my audio CDs to my hard drive in the first place.
UMG is currently making every effort possible to eliminate any audio interference or technical difficulties created by the implementation of copy protection technologies.
What amazes me is that companies are so hell-bent on "copy-protecting" everything that they'll release implementations with actual known performance issues. Then they issue some "Oh, we're workin' on it" statement as though that suddenly makes it okay.
Why can't I play this disc on my Macintosh-based computer?
This CD will play in PCs running Microsoft® Windows95®, Windows98®, Windows2000®, Windows ME®, Windows XP® or Windows NT 4 ® with Service Pack 4. We hope to include Macintosh-based playability on copy-protected discs in the future.
So Mac users are screwed for now. They're "workin' on it."
I HIGHLY doubt the artists are appreciating this "protection" of their rights...
Just a thought. If Microsoft has its way, we won't hear anything about bugs and security holes in its products because of its discouragment of disclosing such information. So, no matter what, Windows will seem more secure, because we'll hear less about its problems.
This isn't a troll, but it's interesting that everybody hates Microsoft because, to compete with Netscape, they released a free browser and made it available on the 'net, thereby ruining Netscape's chances for profit. But nobody seems to mind when an open source project writes a free version of a retail project and makes it available. Hell, FreeCiv is probably lucky they never got sued by Microprose. Other game companies have shut down similar projects (even simple conversion mods, like Doom conversions for Quake or Duke3D for Unreal).
Having said that, it's cool that FreeCiv exists, and I still like to play it (though Civ3 is getting more of my time).
"Bullshit. Win2k user since rollout. NEVER a problem."
I'll admit it, I once installed a pirated copy of Win2k from a friend. I was impressed with its stability, but my whole system got a bit slower. However, the big deciding factor in its removal from my computer was the fact that it had problems recognizing my soundcard (Win98 has no problems). I haven't found a Win2000 driver for it to this day. Linux uses it perfectly.
"Hint: if active desktop causes problems, DON'T USE IT. If you're SO busy, do you really need some frill that can display pretty pictures of Carmen Electra and live webpages on your desktop?"
Maybe you're not so busy, but just a miser."
You have a right to your opinion. I still think Win9x is a mass of crap. Explorer.exe still randomly crashes on me (taking out all open IE windows with it, of course). But, hey, cool that you've never had any problems.
I swear, I must've gotten on the bad side of some mods or something. Every legitimate opinion or comment I offer in every thread gets modded down. Kind of not fun when lots of people can't read what you're saying because you're unfairly below the threshold. I know this post itself is offtopic, but my karma is so low because of strange modding that I felt like responding. I don't understand why my comment was modded down or labelled as "offtopic", but I guess it's silly to get overly concerned over it. *sigh*...
Instead of the alternating version number scheme, just have two source trees. Let Alan Cox be the lead of linux-stable, and Linus be lead of linux-devel. It's kind of like that already, isn't it? But this way it'd be more "official," and people would know to stick with linux-stable, because stuff like this wouldn't get into that tree since it would be caught in linux-devel.
In fact, my Windows partition has killed itself three times.
"Active Desktop" still gives me problems to this day. Upgrade to Windows 2000/XP? When I get the money...too busy buying software that I use to actually work with.
>Lets see if the open source community can solve >a MAJOR file system bug in 24 hours. The same >amount of time Apple typically corrects its >problems.
There's already a patch. Oops!
>Boy, I feel sorry for anyone that lost its data >to an open source OS.
Nobody did. Hell, a forced fsck fixes a corrupted fs right up, and the patch is already out. Problem solved.
>Makes the proprietary Mac OS X look real nice >right now. Its never has had a file system bug >of this magnitude. Now that I think about it >neither has Microsoft.
The FAT filesystem design itself is a design flaw. Micros~1?

No, it doesn't, but thanks for inquiring.
>So much for the superiority of Open Source.
When has Microsoft announced a major flaw and fixed it in so little time? Have you forgotten how they've kept secret MAJOR bugs until other companies finally revealed them? Oops!
>Just think, Red Hat's offer to install Linux in >every classroom could have changed the standard >excuse, "The dog ate my homework" to "The Linux >corrupted my homework files".
Heh. That was actually kind of funny.
>Oops! I said something negative about GNU/Linux, >guess this will be modded down.
Nobody has a problem with constructive criticism. But you're obviously just trying to push some buttons because you need the attention for whatever reasons.
Are you really that annoyed with 3D Realms for using Ash's phrases for Duke Nukem? I read a quote in which you blasted them for not "hiring their own writers." Personally, I always saw it as an homage.
I have a life, thank you. :) It's just that the state of Slashdot is disappointing, that's all. I've been visiting for years.
Thanks. Now my karma is so low, my posts start at -1. All thanks to a certain negative modding that has been taking place in the past few days.
It is now on Kuro5hin. http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2002/1/17/21155/1564
To get Kazaa, I'll have to use WinMX or Morpheus to find it? No big deal.

I saved it. I know I'm risking lowering my karma even more with this, but that's fine.
