  1. respect on "Hackers" crack more Fed sites · · Score: 2

i tell you one thing, i have alot of respect for people who break into places and dont destroy anything or steal anything. now when people start vandalizing data, that is where i draw the line. after all i bet that the sysadmins of the compromised facilities are working their rear-ends off right now trying to fix the security loop holes and that makes me happy because security around this country should be heightened anyways. especially if some 13 year old computer geek who only has 2 years of computer experience can break into some very important computer somewhere.

  2. why? on The War Against The Hackers · · Score: 1

i just have this one comment: why does the government try so hard to try to catch hackers who do simple nearly harmless things like steal their internet connection and then they spend nearly no time catching other interner criminals like child porn peddlers/distributors, hate group promoters/supporters, and weapons information distributors??? heck that would be too easy, lets just blame the violent video games and call it a night...

  4. some people just have it all wrong... on Overclockers "Stick it to the man" · · Score: 1

i agree with an earlier posting, people dont overclock because they dislike their manufacturer. people overclock because they have an old chip, lets say a pentium 166 and they want more processing power so they pump it up a hundred mHz. i dont know many people who would go out and buy a processor then go directly home and overclock it. it just seems like whomever wrote the article made a broad generalization about a few people. the article also mentioned that the life of a processor will be affected by overclocking, which is true, but then again the life of a computer is only a few years now anyway.

  5. totally easy to steal something like this... on TPM movie reel stolen · · Score: 1

i agree with alot of people when i say this, but most theaters leave the projection booths unattended, or manned by some 18 year old high skool kid who only cares about girls, and looking kool. if the projection booth was near an exit, then someone could easily zip in, grab a reel, or a portion of one, and run or drag it out the door. at the local theater by me the exit is behind the plaza, very dark, very few people outside to see you. all you need is a friend to come and pick you up in a car. or you could hide it in a dumpster or the bushes and go get your own car to pick up the film later.

sometimes the stupidity of the US government just astounds me, especially when it comes to anything that deals with computer technology. i wonder if any of the lawmakers have ever even used a computer. hell ill set up an ftp and let the iranians have linux and any other software they want, just to prove a point that the law is stupid!!!!

i agree, after all what was his intention in stealing somebody else's source code? If he wasnt going to do anything with it, then why did he stealt it? if he was going to do something then those companies reported losses could be correct. My point is that he broke into other people's computers, he stole intellectual property in the form of source code, and he got caught. It seems that too many people are saying he is innocent these days, but it looks like he is pretty guilty. i kinda agree that he may not be getting a fair shot since he got caught, but then again it is a pretty stupid thing to get caught for in the first place, unless he was going to sell the source code to Russians for millions of dollars so he could retire tomorrow. i think he got what he deserved, just because a company has poor security doesnt mean that any poor fool can come in and terrorize it with any justification. i got a final to take so i have to cut this short.

Sometimes i wonder about people like you. Is it amazing courage, extra ordinary bravery, or plain stupidity and ignorance. I personally think that you dont believe anything that you wrote, and that you just came here because you wanted to stir up arguments with linux geeks. After all if you are such a HARDCORE NT guy, then why are you reading /.? if you are such a HARDCORE NY guy, then why did you have linux in the first place. Dont tell me you installed it just to try out Q3 test? If you are such a HARDCORE NT guy then i guess it explains why you thought that you needed root priv's to check email. If you are such a HARDCORE NT guy then it explains your mindless consumption of M$ *cha-ching* software and your "mac-like" devotion to your OS! Its too bad that you decided to come here and get flamed! But then again thousands of geeks are laughing at you right now, so i guess your waste of electrons has benefitted someone.

i agree, and you also bring up a valid point. it seems that everyone keeps b*tching about porting M$ applications over to linux. do you really want people to do that, after all hasnt M$ infected their own OS enough? i also think that this is a terribly good time for someone or some group of programmers to make a really nice program for linux. maybe even charge people like 5 dollars for it. heck if 5 graduate students took up the endeavor they could pay their way through a few more years of skool.

  13. banners... yuck! on Ask Slashdot: Banner Ads in "Free" Software? · · Score: 1

i seem to remember another company that put a banner in its software. has anyone ever used aol instant messenger for windoze? well i seem to remember that software having a banner in it. now i guess its not that annoying, but after you accidently click on it a few times you get pretty sick of it, especially if you dislike the ad or the company being advertised. this can lead people to open up the setup files and edit out the ads, :) and also in my case i downloaded tcl/tk and i got the tik version of IM. not that i use windoze often, but i do have to boot it to use my cd burner. anyways, my point is that some people will not care about the ads, but others may hate the ads, is it really worth it for the software companies to have to worry about pissing off their customers because of the ads? it seems kinda rediculous that software designers cant make a product that can stand alone by itself and that they have to resort to annoying marketing practices to sell or distribute their products.
