>> they pay farmers to let food rot so they can keep prices high
Mmm... well that's true in part: adjusting for inflation, ag prices are lower now that at any point since the 1950s.
This came up earlier in the thread, but did anyone stop and think that Apple has been showing off a themed operating system since the mid-1990s? Copland was first seen by the public in 1994 or 95; amongst its many features was the Appearance Manager which allowed theming of the GUI. Though Copland was killed in 1996, the functionality did appear in the MacOS 8.0 in, iirc, 1998.
Apple's got its own prior art with the first public showing in 1994 or early 1995. (Greg Landwebber's 'Aaron', which mimicked the Copland Platinum theme, was released at MacHack 1995. MacHack is a spring event.)
Yup. And I was just pointing out that Apple's actual work on themes predates the first public appearance of Copland---which was October of 1996, iirc, in MacWorld. I'd venture the conceptual work goes back as far as '92 or so, maybe farther.
Typical with Apple: they get the great idea, but they just implement it before the world is ready. ie, the Newton.
And Platinum was, in turn, based on a theme prepared for Apple's Copland OS which was being worked on even while Apple was still using Motorola 680x0 chips instead of PowerPC. Apple's been themeing for a LONG time.
>> told Touretzky that his entire home page is a 'circumvention device.
Wouldn't, then, someone who memorized the entire DeCSS source be a circumvention device in themselves? Touretzky has other non-DeCSS stuff on his site, much like anyone who memorizes the code has non-DeCSS stuff in their heads.
This scares me. MPAA lobotomies to get rid of the memorized code---oh wait, that's what Battlefield Earth was for. And who, of all people, would be interested in a crappy sci-fi movie? The same people who would memorize the DeCSS source! It's all making sense, now!;-)
ummm... no... they only lose the right to speech which is contrary to an educational environment. you don't have the right to spontaneously organize a protest in the middle of class as its disruptive to the educational environment. but you do have the right to wear a shirt protesting something or another.(the supreme court case you want is Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School District, 1969. "It can hardly be argued that either students or teachers shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech . . . at the schoolhouse gates.")
and the press? the last i checked high school press was limited by the fact that the school usually acts as publisher, meaning they pay for the production, printing, and distro of the press. if you want to form an alternative press at your own expense, the school cannot impose unreasonable limitations on its distrobution on school grounds. (college press, i know for a fact, has practically no differentiation with commercial press as far as press rights go.)
the ACLU is the preeminent source for student's rights info. They've got a whole section on student's rights on their web site. Good stuff.
Yea, I know that whole 1970s thing was the National Guard getting just a tisch trigger happy. But the Kent State UPD just bought freaking M16s
Supposedly, they're being modified to semi-automatic. Still, what the hell does a UPD need M16s for? If it's that bad, call in the city police or sherrifs for help. Or even the National Guard if you have a riot on your hands.... oh wait... that happened already. My bad.
Instead of digging them out, using the raw material and destorying such a wonder, they're actually going to make the place accessible to the public, including AC to handle the heat.
Score 1 for ecotourism, even if it's just some really huge crystals.
How big of a station is it? Where are your demographics? Are you catering to mostly local listeners? If so, sell ads locally and run your own banner script.
If not, I've had really good luck with Advertising.com (used to be called TeknoSurf)
Last fall, I turned down a job in Orange County for $40k/year. (Web design.) Not nearly enough to comfortably live on. Looking at $1000+/month for rent in a one-bedroom apartment.
Dental records will do in a pinch, as will a DNA sample from the body (I say body because I presume you're talking about abucted and then found dead) compared with the parents' DNA.
Fingerprinting your kids *may* have been a good idea 20 years ago, but now---now it's just a way to match biometrics with a social security number.
Oh come on... just because it's Explorer it's evil. Have you ever used Explorer 5.0 for the Mac to know just how good it actually is? If you were Apple, getting ready to launch a completely overhauled version of your OS, wouldn't you want to hint to people that, yes Virginia, there is a web browser?
Read his profile. He's a troll. Supposedly Amish from Penn. who went to graduate school in Florida. He misses milking his cow. Used to milk her all morning because she enjoyed it. The profile cuts off just as he gets into the thing about the cow.
Just checking: You do know that the Beta has an expirity sometime in May or June, right? Best to use your upgrade coupon to 1.0 when the time comes.

Why not simply transmit them up as DivX ;-), and dump them to a DVD-RAM disc? Saves on transport costs, and offers more of a selection.
Or does this kind of bandwidth not exist for earth --> space transmission?
