there is no convincing medical evidence that moderate use of drugs such as marijuana, alcohol, mdma, and lsd cause brain damage.
Perhaps there is no evidence that they cause brain damage, but there is evidence that marijuana can cause lung damage, alcohol can cause liver damage and lsd can cause flashbacks by embedding itself into your fat. Of course, this might not be the case with only "moderate" use, but remember that one person's "moderate" can be significantly more than the next person's "stoner". It is, after all, a relative term.
I agree. Using Linux has taught me the way an OS works as well. But what about the people who only want to use Linux for email, word proccessing, etc.? For example, my dad has been programming for years, but he just doesn't care about the details of the files in the/etc/ system. If he was alone on the computer I don't think it would work.
It seems to me like the thing we need is a) some well organized documentation so that people can learn about their system and b) a GUI tool that lets people configure their system without getting their hands dirty.
Linux is supposed to be about freedom of choice, right? Why not give people the choice to learn or not? We shouldn't be forcing people to do anything.
Yes. Madeline Kahn, who also died recently, did a wonderful Marlene Dietrich impersonation in Blazing Saddles, and was called Hedly Lamar. Given that it was Mel Brooks directing, I would doubt that this was either a coincedence or a homage, but rather a subtle (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) joke.
Not only is the pic amazing, but it's also quite contentious. It was used completely without Hedy Lamarr's permission, and I know that she objected to its use. I'm not sure if she sued over it, but I think it was in definite bad taste for Corel to use her image without even contacting her.
There was quite a good story about her in Invention & Technology a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be archived.
I'm sorry to ask such a personal question, but given Corel's already somewhat shaky financial situation, how do you justify your own extravagance? For example, there's the million dollar dress mentioned in an earlier post, the notorious mansion, and the Porsches. Wouldn't you be serving the company better without these expenses?
Now the Mountain Dew I just drank won't have the effect it usually does. I guess I must have been giving myself a pretty big placebo effect by drinking MD.
Now that I know that it has no caffeine, it won't do me any good at all.
Actually, it looks to me as if this page was cracked or what you would call "hacked". The cracker that did this has been attributed to 11 security intrusions according to attrition.org. I don't know if these people all go by the same name, but if this is one person, he (or she, of course) certainly knows what he is doing.
Anyway, who really cares what word we use? I tell other computer people that I do a bit of hacking when I hack my kernel or write some perl. I don't say this to non-computer people that might take it the wrong way, though. Usually I just don't talk to these people about computers.
If you are using gnome, go with grip and bladeenc. I don't have any numbers to back this up, but I am encoding my CD collection right now with this method and it is certainly the most convenient I've found. A bonus is that bladeenc is now under the LGPL.

Oh no...

When I consider how much I read, it probably makes more sense just to stick with the glasses and contacts.

When you go to the page, be sure to look at the source code. The meta keywords tag contains such gems as "The Martha Stewart of Y2K".
