Which of these set-ups have good support for e-commerce? Particularly open-source e-commerce platforms, if anyone can suggest any that are stable and robust.

I just hope that they'll work on speeding things up. I'm on 1.6 on Win98 and mozilla is noticeably slower than IE. What's worse is that it seems to get more and more like Netscape 4.7 in having troubles with tables.
I regret that I have only one mod point to give to my gay niggers.

I've looked into templates mainly for their cacheing ability.
I've worked in enviroments that require plain HTML, so I was looking at setting up the logic in PHP and using the template to build it out into a static site. The only problem is that I'm lazy and ignorant ; ) and the thought of learning something on top of the PHP, which I dodn't know too well to begin with, was daunting. Smarty seems to be the most mature platform, but it looks like it requires a fair amount of arcane expertise
The latest beta drops support for PowerPC platform. What's the hang-up. The official site just says, "Due to severe problems found in the powerpc port at the last minute, it was dropped from beta 3".
I've been trying to get Samba working on an Yellowdog Linux installation that I currently have on the home LAN, that currently works as an FTP server. No GUI,I just ssh into the box from my windows machine, but I do have webmin installed. I have yet to find any clear, documentation on how to get things running. The free online O'Reilly book is overly verbose and complex. I really don't need to know the history of networking. Just a step-by-step guide would help.
What would the latency on WUSB be? My understanding is that input devices like trackballs and keyboards have some noticeable latency lags in bluetooth.
Government inefficiency is a canard. Government is usually fairly efficient. Just like private enterprise, sometimes public enterprise does the job well, sometimes it does it poorly.
One reason that public enterprise sometimes seems more inefficient is because unlike private enterprise, it cannot choose to service only profitable customers. This is evident in the schol systems, where publicly-run or -subsidized schools must deal with the hardest educational cases, such as children with disabilities. Another problem is that, by requiring payments, private schools necessarily only enroll students whose parents take an active interest in their education. The additional financial commitment signals greater parental involvement, which is key to educational success.
The case for more "equitable" taxation across income levels falls apart in the current regime. The rich often pay less a percentage of their incomes than the poor or middle class, when you factor in all taxes, especially sales taxes. While punitive taxes of almost 100% are a bad idea, it is also of questionable value to lower taxes on some income to nothing, as is the case without the inheritance tax.
In the case of health care, in the United States, government run health programs, like medicare or medicaid, have significantly lower administrative costs than their private counterparts.
Finally, all of the first great expeditions of discovery were government-financed: Columbus, Magellan, Vespucci, Hudson, etc., etc.. All of these ventures were wholly dependent on the public teat.
The truth is that a well-run government usually does about as well as a well-run business.
There is no correlation between executive compensation and company performance. There is a strong correlation between company size and executive compensation. The bigger the piggy bank, the more the chief can pilfer.

The claim that executives are worth their outrageous salaries is scienfically verifiable bullshit.
The U.S. Federal government should adopt a policy of only purchasing from companies that don't outsource abroad. Companies would have to weigh saving money on outsourcing againt losing the revenue of the single largest customer in the world.
This approach has worked on the car industry. California, with its huge markets, imposes strict pollution standards, and the carmakers adopt the measures nationwide because they can't allow themselves to be shut out of the California market.
The President needs to call up HP and tell her that if she ships jobs overseas, HP has lost him and his company, the U.S. federal government, as a customer. It's sort of like if you or I did it, but he's much more likely to get higher up on the customer-support chain. Maybe he'll even get to speak to a manager. Wouldn't it be funny if his call was fielded from India!
It would really be funny when he gave all his business to a company that keeps jobs at home. Then Carly could compete for a job. I think that she makes more than minimum wage. Is she worth it?
I've looked over the Wine site and the only programs that work well are Microsoft Office. This is amusing, because I have recently started using OpenOffice, so MS Office compatibility is not a major issue.
VMware looks like it still requires a copy of Windows to run.
Website is in Russian. are there any other details about this? I can just picture this utterly trashing my computer. I've seen people run pirated keys and it led to so many troubles, that eventually they went legit. This looks like it could troubles as well.
I'm unhappy about this because I like my win '98 box because it runs the software I need (Photoshop, games, dreamweaver) and unlike XP, it doesn't have product activation.
I can't really bitch too much at Microsoft, because 5+ years active support is much better than any commercial Linux distro.
If Linux could run Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Europa Universalis II, this would prompt me to switch.

I second using adblock. It is so great that it warrants the switch to mozilla all by itself.
It may be a drag on performance and it causes a few weird page hiccups at times, but it truly is lovely to surf without annoying Flash ads.
That's right! It blocks Flash ads. Just as I was about to uninstall Flash on my computer, I discovered AdBlock.

I'm not trying to troll, but what's your trick to using CSS and XHTML without coming across lots of browser incompatibility issues?
I used to DM friends over the phone when we couldn't get together. It worked pretty well.
Many phone companies offer unlimited cnference calling for a set fee. With an unlimited long distance plan, it may be worth looking into.
It's good to hear that the absence of ppc support is only temporary.
It's also remarkable that a Debian project is sticking to its deadlines!

Is the same latency issue true with WUSB?
Why does business week always crash mozilla. I'm running 1.2 on win '98.
thanks
Shit. Does that mean I'll have to retrain adblock? will the blocking list transfer? Is that "user generated"?
yes, it was the browser. 1.2 still runs fine. You don't need to duck, as I'm not the vindictive type.
*SPLAT! Pie in yer face.*
ok, sometimes I lie.
I have 1.2 installed, but 1.6 release notes require uninstall to upgrade. Why is this?
Also I am running adblock as well as an extension(?)/plug-in(?). Would that need to be uninstalled and then reinstalled as well?
I'm running 1.2 on win 98. Is the upgrade worth it?
I tried 1.4 stable butit was too buggy.
