that's kind of how i was looking at it as well; if i'm opening a video it's because i want to watch it. i can see that that may not always be the case. embedded video isn't going away because many designers like the vid as an element to the page layout. maybe a good solution would be to have an option in the browser to have an external player handle video instead of embedded on the page. now i'd kind of like to see a ff extension to move video to it's own tab...

i suppose you could always just use lynx if you don't want all that multi-media in your browser. unless i'm reading you wrong, your idea seems like a big step backwards (from my perspective).

maybe it's just difference in *how* i get my work done, or the type of work i use it for, but i've never understood all the people who yell and scream about the u.i. in adobe products. i've spent the last ten years or so in production art rooms; photoshop and illustrator are my daily tools (indesign from time to time as well) and i'm perfectly happy with the interface. nowadays i do most of my work on a 13" laptop screen, and even with this little real-estate i can always find the tools i need when i need them. i'd actually have to say that photoshop is probably the most logically laid-out u.i. i've used, but maybe that's because i've been on it since v3.

i also don't have the system resource issues i hear so many others complain about. i've got a dual core with 2gb ram and as i type this i have a gb or so of psd open and a couple small illustrator files on the go, and it's all smooth sailing for me.

back on topic, kudos to the adobe guys for the release. keep up the good work.

DSMI is a library for building midi apps on the Nintendo DS and the iPhone, and also a server for win/linux/osx machines to swap data with the apps over the network. Also supports the newly-emerging OSC. There are already a few apps for the iPhone, so getting them running on the iPad (worst. name. ever.) should be trivial. It's pretty much the only reason I want one.

the next step from MIDI is OSC. higher precision and networkable are my two favourite features. lots of small/homebrew stuff already supports it (plogue bidule, dsmi, iphone apps), and Native Instruments has support for it in some of their newer gear, though i hear the support is spotty and not too well documented. if you're on a mac there's OSCulator that acts as an OSC host, passing data to/from your midi hosts. there's also work being done to get it running in Ableton Live with some python scripts. I'm eager to see it supported natively in all the major DAWs in the near future.
