Go back and play Hugo's House of Horrors (or many similiar adventure games of the not-quite-post-text era) and you'll see an interface that looks a lot like what this guy is describing.
Standard PC hardware is used absolutely everywhere now days, even places it really has no business being; ATMs, voting machines, automatic train control systems, etc.
I'm sure Cory is trying to argue against locked-down devices -- the same argument he's been making for years -- but now he's repackaged the argument in a way that simply isn't true.
A while ago I had the opportunity to visit a so-called "VIP" movie theater in Mexico City. The seats are all recliners, there's tables between every pair of seats, and -- best of all -- waiters who will bring you food and cocktails.
We need something like that here. I'd watch a lot more movies (and gain 30 pounds in a month.)
What he should have done was turn it into a religious issue.
Let's say I stand outside a gay person's house (could be any minority group, gay is an example) with a sign that says I hate them and I'm going to burn them. I'd be arrested for threatening that person.
Now if I stand outside that same person's house with a sign that says God hates them and God will burn them in Hell, that's perfectly fine for some reason.
If you read the comments on that page, there's inconsistent reports. A few people report that even though the app is no longer in the App Store it's still possible to use it and sync it to new devices.
So if they do have a kill switch it might not work very well.

Maybe instead of making baseless accusations, you could actually respond to the part of his post that you disagree with?
As someone who works in the Linux desktop world, I don't see anything in his post that seems off-base or even inflammatory.
Have you seen the size of a small movie theater popcorn now days? It's enough to feed an army.
That's pretty typical though. Normally people don't want to program on small devices, because the form factor is inconvenient for programming.
Besides, "additional costs" aren't really a factor here. Don't confuse free as a libre with free as in zero cost.
$99 for the SDK is "substantial"? Really?
I mean, at the point where you're paying $200 for a phone, plus ~$80/month in service, laying down a Benny for the iPhone SDK doesn't seem that bad.
The student edition of Visual Studio is about the same price.
If I can write a program and install it on my (unjailbroken) iOS device, is it really walled?
Sure, it might be unnecessarily difficult but that never stopped a true nerd.

...of an Internet Tough Guy.
Which, unless you're getting paid to be a jester, is the wrong way to do any job.
Is free day care included with an E-Reader?
Since the summary didn't provide this, the allegedly large bets are:
1. An alternative to Android
2. An alternative to OpenID
3. An App store
Blubster, Piolet, and Manolito P2P are all programs that operate on a network (confusingly) called MP2P.
GObject has features C++ doesn't include natively, like type introspection.
Besides, what's wrong with C for a low-level API? You can connect just about any C-based API to a higher level language.
I use GObject all the time. It's not that bad, especially if used from high-level languages.
No, if you want to complain about Gnome's libraries I can give you some places to start;GObject isn't one of them.
Or Rhythmbox, or Amarok, or Banshee, or Exaile, or Guayadeque...
Where have I heard this story before? Monkeys, nuclear radiation...
Oh yeah, every Japanese monster movie ever made!

Wake me up when Eclipse adds Vala support.
Until then, Gedit remains the best option.
Just saying "Droid" (vs. "Android") is enough to start a flamewar in this unstable day and age. A "Slashdot Spring" if you will.
Yo dawg I heard you like interpreting PHP code, so we put an eval() function in PHP so you can interpret PHP while you interpret PHP!
First of all, if your software engineers are getting paid $200,000, could I forward you my resume?
Second, support contracts can easily cost far more than that.
*sigh*
/goes back to adding a debug printf in gedit.
