It's like using a desktop computer just so you can remotely eject the CD tray and knock over a cup of water to water your plants while you're on vacation.
Yes, you COULD do that, but it's wasteful and unnecessary. And last I checked, wasteful and unnecessary weren't the hallmarks of a "simple" design.

Isn't that also known as "business as usual"? Their most frequent customers wouldn't even notice.
I've only flown United twice. The first time there was a 5 hour delay. The second time there was a 3 hour delay. So today's delay sounds par for the course.
The underlying technology matters, sure, but you're not going to be replacing Flash anytime soon without an authoring tool that people can actually use. The reason Flash took off wasn't because the plugin was easy to get, it was because the authoring tool made it simple to build a basic web app without a lot of hassle.
Nope, that's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying if you have friends, you don't want to be "that guy" who shits on everything (whether it be Facebook or whatever) because if you pull that shit, pretty soon you won't have any friends.
Dude, that's complete bullshit. The majority of Apple Store employees are part time and don't get any benefits (except for cheap benefits like commuter checks.) Part timers start at ~$12 an hour.
Apple Store has a reputation for firing people at the drop of a hat. There's simply no value for them in retaining employees in the long run simply BECAUSE their employees are easily replaceable and the cost of retention is higher than the cost of training.
The 2011 tech bubble could very well help Groupon raise money.
But remember the last tech bubble? During the dotcom days nobody would have bothered saving $10 at a restaurant. If this current bubble has any staying power, it could put Groupon out of business.
A lot of it's got to be the increasing size of web pages in general. Now that most folks have higher bandwidth connections, web designers don't focus on keeping the download size small.
Multiply that increase by the size of your cache (how many times can you click "back" without hitting the disk?) and you can see the full scope of the problem.
But let's be fair here, a great deal of the advances we've made have been in the field of digging things up and consuming them -- energy, plastics, computers, etc. etc.
If our consumer-oriented lifestyle is to be sustainable, we need major advances in clean energy and recycling technology.

A: Because it's a dumb idea.

I'm pretty sure freedom of speech includes the right to say whatever you want on the phone.
But does it really include the right to call and/or harass people by ringing their phone? That doesn't seem like "speech" to me at all.
...how do I rent the controllers for Rock Band?

Because that only solves half the problem?

Some of us actually have friends though, so your solution won't work for us.
Yeah, who cares about personal freedom? It's totally worth selling your soul to get a job.
Now I'm going to join every offensive group on Facebook that I can just so I know who's spying on me.
Because clearly you need to re-read this thread. It will all make sense then.
FTA: "All languages but C++ are garbage collected, where Scala and Java share the same garbage collector."
That's got to play a factor here.

Miss the point of my comment entirely, why don't you.

Please, don't remind me of X 10 and their pop-under ads for webcams.
That's odd that they're making a distinction between Javascript and "storage." After all, isn't (most) Javascript associated with a specific page?

64 bits is only 8 bytes. An unsigned 64-bit number can take Firefox all the way up to version 18,446,744,073,709,551,615.
So that should take them at least until through next Thursday.
No, he's right -- the burden of proof is on the one making the claim.
So your computer is made without raw materials? Interesting. And where did you buy this computer?
