Remember, with enough lawyers _everything_ you do on your computer or download from the Internet may be considered illegal.
OTOH - if - for example - you crack a proprietary video codec so that it is suited for full-length movies distribution, add a cracked proprietary sound codec, name it all after a proprietary technology, then take some others' source, tweak it a bit, urge other peoples to contribute promising that it will be "free for ever", then demand money for it - it is still ok if you form a company! You can even put your certification on hardware players and stuff. Voila. (Yes, I do troll, "mod me down". But better yet - reply).
"When I played (it) a lot," said Laura Martin, a devotee of the game, "I remember thinking, 'What percent of my bladder is full?' to decide if it was time to head to the bathroom."
Sometimes I cannot even sleep because some tune is stuck in my head. The sad thing is that I'm totally serious:( Shit - music has stronger influence than many people realise I think. Gaming, anyway - I feel _so_ silly when I strafe around the house with my arms strung after a good dose of IL2. And I'm 30.:-|
Oh, shit, I dropped a CD to the floor, can someone calculate how that affects Earth rotation? Yes, it's a big event, but it is so much smaller than (EG) this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krakatoa. I read that they was tracking climate changes caused by this in _Europe_ 5 years after the event.
Me, I oppose going to Mars from anywhere except from the Moon colony. See - for the last 30(?) years the man has NOT broken off the Earth orbit, right? So, let's send three or four people to Mars, ok, what the f...g big deal? Are we going to be happy about it for the next 100 years or what? Gosh, the planets are only an economical engine away - we kinda have everything else I guess. Why should we do that? For once - so that we don't _constantly_, even if _subconsciously_ live in the fear that it takes only a couple of madmen getting pissed off to annihilate thousands of years of our civilazition existing in this world.
Actually, I'm a part of ex-USSR population who grew up in the Cold War hearing that "bourgeois" (sp?) are going to destroy.... etc... Don't tell me that communism is ok, ok?
Anyone who challenges any monopoly is a kind of a hero in my book. Monopolised world = communism = you are owned. Competition = free market = you choose.
Now, do you guys really use bookmarks? I mean - yeah - sometimes we all stumble on something cool but (after a couple approaches) I find it's more bother than use to try and keep them organized. I just keep half a dozen maybe on my toolbar and put temporary links there also. Bookmarks? I feel I can fish out a page faster using search engine(s). Also - bookmarks become obsolete, search engines generally find working pages.
When they say about shortage, don't get it wrong. Quite probably they are after the people willing to work for a daily bowl of ramen or similar (aka "replaceable slaves"). Why do you think you are always asked whether "could we do it in VB?".
After all - you _are_ geek, you should enjoy cleaning dust out of office PCs! (Or coding VB which IMO is an equivalent).
Note how the (/.) article does NOT state the number of bugs in WindowsXP code. It just states the number of lines in XP code (supposedly, courtesy Microsoft Corp.) and some _industry_average_ bugs per line numbers. I would call that "propaganda" if I weren't on their side;)
Actually, _any_ speed can generate infinite G _if_ the bodies in contact are absolutely rigid. So - if you drop it from 3 feet to marble floor I guess you can have a hell of deceleration especially if drops flat, especially with it being ultra-small and thin and all that.

Yes, new things tend to be slick and shiny. Applies to almost everything. When they grow up they become burdened with all kinds of supporting sticks, duct tape and patches. Take PalmOS, take the directories structure on your HDD, take Java, and even when the brightest guys handle it (mod me to hell) - take Python or Unix... Not as easy as it used to be "back in the day".
.Net (WTF - extremely "ungooglable" name, BTW) is young and peppy... Wait 5-10 years for it to mature though.
TCO is the TOTAL cost (in cash, lost sales, employee time, overhead) of the technology.
And as such it is totally uncalculatable, making it totally meaningless, making it totally useless except for brainwashing - in much the same way that those shampoo ads promising your hair will be 58% more silky and shiny.

And steam engine engineers! Don't forget us, it's been a bitch of a market lately!
Or in other words: "Heck, why should we do it for free? There's a shop over there, go and buy it." ;)
Know, eye don't sink saw.

Which is an interesting question, BTW: do (many) people in India, or ex-USSR, know COBOL?

Hmm, maybe because:
.... well, help me here :)
1) It would be untrue.
2) _This_ article has about the same chance to appear on microsoft.com as
Is Windows 2003 a rival for a Linux deep inside my DVD player or do you imply something?

.NET is the new API which replaces Win32
Say it when you have winword.exe - the dotnet executable. (Or quake4.exe for that matter).
27 MHz ARM7TDMI, 450,000 instructions per second
Wait a minute, does it spend _60_ clocks per instruction on average???
(Yes, I understand that supposedly they are a bit higher level than even x86, but still....)

Use Firefox? Google for BugMeNot.
Well, I used to have my UIN splattered all over usenet... And still, considering, I definitely am not bothered by it.
MirandaIM! It's as lightweight as it gets, and since I entered 1909 as my birth date I receive as much as one spam message every 2 months or so. ;)
