As much as I agree with you:-) I have some additions.
A Windows UI blitz-quiz:
- When do you press Ctrl-/ and when Ctrl-A to select all items in a list? - How do you explain that to a *user*? - What will happen to a file when you drag it from one folder to another? - How do you explain that to a *user*? ...
Plain vanilla symlinks. I understand it's an exaggeration but the fact that *simple* (yep - simple!) things like that reliably working together IS what makes a UNIX UNIX.
But hey, dosemu was for a long-long time stable/feature-rich enough to "deserve" 1.0 label.
My, what a shock it was when I ran "nascar racing" in an x-window and it run almost with no slowdown whatsoever. That was some years ago and the machine I had then was 486DX-66 with 8MB RAM and an VLB video.
> "I wonder how much of an impact this will have on performance, compared to Intel's Kamati offerings with a 1/2 speed cache?"
I think larger L1 cache will compensate it. BTW - it's strange how people only keep in mind L2 cache when talking about caches. Considering that L1 cache does 90% (or so) of the speeding job.
... it's only 3E8Mhz. What? Is slashdot now going to announce every new chip in the world? Wait at least for 400Mhz part. That would be at least somewhat round number.
:-)
Gee. Seriously, great job from AMD! Greets. A bit expensive though. BTW: When you think we gonna have Socket (or whatever) Athlon parts for 50-80 bucks?
That sucks. What's the use for the phone line? You can't host a server on the phone line. What I really would like is a cable connection with unlimited traffic. That would be nice.
And I would say that it would be utterly stupid for them to even think about changing it. I recall that there's about 6000 languages and dialects in the world. Now, possibly every word you can think of means something... uhm, juicy in one of it.;-) For instance - ebay in many east-european languages will mean exactly 'fuck' also. So now what? Or say, do you remember a story here on/. about some brittish South Park College?
PS: BTW, what does 'byte' mean in french? Why do they use 'octet'?
So... linux-2.3.48.tar.bz2. Exactly 15853813 bytes... Isn't it *a bit* too big yet? You know, I'm at home now and the only connection I got here is 33.6. Takes a while for it to fall down here... Please, any kind soul split it into modules so different alt. cpu sections and drivers for some rare h/w are separate from "core kernel"? Thank you!

Proposals: a) Let moderators moderate as many posts *down* as they fancy b) If an anonymous post got two (or three) negative markings and no positive ones it should be removed c) A squad of certain nature should be organised and deployed
> "While many of your ideas are good one should not forget that a HOWTO should be readable on an original VT100 and lynx, and be readable on a plain printout of the.txt file."
Even though I'm all with you on plaintext issue, I have a feeling that VT100-compatibility is less important than PC-compatibility. It scares people. I consider myself pretty "tough" in this issues (and generally I like CLI's - like, say, in SoftICE), but sometimes linux console s/w drives me nuts... (Not to mention emacs:-)
... is a *dual* Athlon system instead of MHz's. Is it just me or they are delaying SMP Athlon solutions for a bit too long? Or they simply don't care about server market?

OLE based computing - no, thank you!
Why X is nicked X11?
Was there X2, X3 etc.?
ARE YOU STILL ALIVE?!
Tsk, tsk...
I gonna have a tough talk with the guys today. Maybe, I'll even have to fire them.
Please someone hack UFO: Enemy unknown so it's usable on anything higher that 486/33 or else I'll had to do it :)
What a great game! Nothing even close was made after it.

But of course, it's not just a game-runner.
Cheers to dosemu team!

IIRC, 2.2 was late but exactly a month... Now compare this with some 3 years of delaying you know what...
Just two days after I finally installed 2.1.2 properly.... ;-)
My, does 2.1.3 also build itself "recursively" on 'make install' like 2.1.2?
How much more coolness points does .cx has over $(SUBJ)?
News for you:
There's no more Inprise. Just Borland. Corel will sell "Borland Delphi" and friends.
Hyped to _death_?
Please, everyone willing slashdot posting reports on W2k every 10 minutes raise your hands!
Let's slashdot the slashdot!
Duh...
65000 bugs in NT,
65000 bugs...
You patch one down,
Pass it around...
64999 bugs in NT...
Netscape 6.0
Opera 7.2
Lynx 345.242
MSIE 1234
Oh! Wait... they use years now.
But then this particular number will fit them also...
... but, alas, it seems that many universities would rather kick a "hacker" out of it than support people working on security issues.
Ahh, anyway - Linux in its best *is* an university thing.

Why don't you make an account, stop posting anonymously, earn a little "karma" and moderate for yourself?

Oh, please...
Frequency is an analogue value. Not descrete. 1024 has no special meaning there.
