Microsoft didn't wake up one day and say, "hey we should make a hackable system and sell it for less than cost!" That way NEBWBIE and the other 0.05% of the market will buy it! Just think of the $250,000 we can lose!

If you want a hackable system, go buy a computer. I'm sure you've heard of it. Ohhh, you can't find one under cost? I wonder why they're not giving them out for free! Just think of all the money someone could make doing that!

Go make a system. Buy a microATX board, and make a small hackable system. Lots of fun.

And last but not least, there is nothing stopping you from hacking your old xbox. There's nothing to keep you from trying to hack a new xbox.

Companies have been dipping their chips in epoxy for decades.

The XBOX is suppose to play games. It still does.

You're right. Thanks for reminding me that America isn't the only place full of fucking assholes.

Considering the article was about about UPS, FedEx, the United States Post Office, AND about Netflix (where only USA customers are allowed to be customers due to postal considerations) you'll have to forgive me for not reading your mind. I've traded packages with lots of European nations, and I never heard of any of them complaining about their postage rates except Yugoslavia.

So instead of your message being wrong, it's just off topic.

This sounds like the old George Bush guessing that a gallon of milk cost $9.

A mini-cd can fit in a small envelope, and weighs in under the 1-ounce, meaning only 1 stamp needed. A full size cd can fit safely in a padded envelope and mail at under $1.

For $3.95 you can send anything that fits into a priority box/envelope. You can probably fit 40 cd's in there.

Never send jewel cases either, just use sleeves

I've been mailing cd-r's with mp3 albums for a long time, and the postage isn't that bad until you start looking at over seas trades.

How much I listen to, what I listen to is similar to everyone else. I have my favorites, and they fit on my hard drive. At work, I switch between the new Punk-O-Rama 7, Braveheart soundtrack, and some progressive trance tracks almost all the time. However, the only difference is, once in a while I'll try some legendary Jazz. Can't say I like it much, but I consider it an education. Plus Miles Davis isn't too bad. When I'm feeling blue, I try out my extensive Blues collection. I have found out exactly which era I enjoy (Muddy waters, et al)

...A shoebox full of burned CDs is a highly inefficient way to archive anything important enough to retrieve semi-regularly....

My shoe box is an almost-finished Mindstorm Lego robotic "contraption" that grabs the correct CD-r and puts it into an external CDROM. All the albums and which CD-R they are on, are in a MySQL database. The remote works with it, as does a web interface. As soon as DVD-R/+R figures itself out, i can move them to DVD-R/+R, allowing for more room to grow.

Otherwise, looking forward to the day that hard drives get bigger and smaller. How much memory will a portable player have in 10 years? 1TB? Probably more. Just in time for my kid to carry around all the music in the world (exaggerating) in his pocket.

Besides, as Mad Max has shown, I'll need something to trade at Barter Town.

And last but not least, collectors have a well known sickness: Collecting.
