I thought I was the only who noticed this. It seemed like, for a few months at least, they were running Die Hard constantly. Normal TV-MA Die Hard, awful censored TV-14 Die Hard ("Yippie ki-yay mothercrusher"), Spanish Die Hard. At one point, I actually Googled to see if Bruce Willis or someone had died. This was before Alan Rickman's death, but they ran even more Die Hard after that.
Funny thing is, I usually ended up watching it because it was the best thing on. Now I can recite the entire script with uncanny ability.
It's unlikely. Big, powerful, nearly-unaccountable organizations like the NSA would prefer someone a little more... politically entrenched. Trump, unlike a career politician, would actually be capable of saying "fuck these three-letter agencies, tear them all down". Don't take that as me saying he actually would, but he's capable of doing it, and the NSA knows it.... I can't believe I just said something positive about Trump. Ugh. Our political climate is a fecal monsoon.
Actually, what positive thing you just said about Trump is the very reason he is as popular as he is now. The man is a self-funded, non-politician and that is what makes him so popular. Like him or not, voting for Trump sends a message to the government that "hey, all you politicians fucked up so bad we'd rather have THIS guy" Trump already has more than enough money and power, which makes him less susceptible to bribery. He has little to gain from being the president other than the chance to, well, "Make America Great Again".
Almost no actual Trump voters agree with everything he says, or even most of it. They do however think that the good Trump offers will outweigh the bad he might do.
Trump will destroy your country. There will be riots. If he deports eleven million people, there will be very big riots. Cities will burn. If he tries to get Mexico to build a wall, the international community will turn their backs, Mexico won't do it (of course), and more cities will burn. America couldn't last forever of course, nowhere does, so this is a perfectly normal turn of events.
But mark my words. If he wins, he will destroy you.
If you actually believe that, you are far stupider than the Trump supporters. He says he will do things like that to appeal to the masses, it's a brilliant strategy. Sort of how like President Obama made promises about bringing the troops home. Trump is playing the field.
Way to be so edgy and attack Fox News. Not that I think Fox News is "fair and balanced", but you have to be a goddamn fool to not acknowledge that every other major news network has a left-wing bias. Look at the numbers. There's a reason Fox News is consistently the most watched, because there's no other major news network that offers a conservative bias, but there are tons that offer a liberal bias.
And don't reply to this with, "But Fox News has more bias!" If you seriously think that, you're beyond ignorant.
"What's that lighted bracelet? Are you under house arrest?"
"No... I just have no self-control and need to be literally trained like a dog."
I can't wait until somebody develops an app for Android that lets me hack into these things and shock people remotely. Bought that pack of gum? Overspent!
Anyone who is making highly accurate robotic replicas of humans should at least have the common decency to model them after a giant Austrian bodybuilder.
Alternatively- if they make sexbots- so long as someone in rainy Los Angeles lets me hunt them down with a revolver while wearing an overcoat, then I would also be satisfied.
Big corporation does something bad: How dare they?! When are they going to do the right thing?
Big corporation does something good (or at least tries to): Whatever! It won't work! Big stupid corporations don't care about us and big stupid government is in the pocket of the big stupid corporations!
There is no such thing as good news on here, apparently. Unless it involves Raspberry PI or 3D printing. (But not 3D printing guns.)
Communism has always sounded much more viable when described in a textbook than when implemented in practice.
This. The problem with communism is that it goes completely against the inherently selfish nature of humans. And no, you can't change people to be more accepting of it. Every single time it has been tried, it has failed. (With the possible exception of China, but who really wants to live there?) There will always be those among us who strive for greatness, not to serve humanity at large, but because of self-interest. It is this desire that has led to much of human progress. The problem with communism is that it brings everybody down to the same shitty level. There's no incentive to become a neurosurgeon if you can make just as much money working as a cashier.
Capitalism is the worst economic system, except for all the others.
Oh boo bloody hoo, the servers were down for less than an hour, during the most hectic sale they have each year
It's not just this, trust me. There's a whole host of reasons why Steam is awful. Too many for me to list them all in detail, although most of them can be summed up as "bad customer support". But I know that to try and change your opinion would be futile, enjoy defending Valve. I'm sure they really appreciate you.
Just another reason that Steam is awful. This is what happens when you put all your eggs in one basket. Who thought it was a good idea to have this ugly, buggy, bloated, and now apparently insecure, program installed alongside every single PC release? And the worst part is that there is no alternative. Origin only offers EA games, and GOG doesn't have many (if any) new releases.
I really can't wait for another service to come along and knock Steam off their pedestal. Maybe then it will force Valve to get their shit together.
I think this is excellent. While AdBlock Plus might not be perfect, having it installed by a major manufacturer is an important milestone in stopping the business of intrusive advertising. One must consider that most of the general population does not care enough to install an adblocker. This is especially true for mobile devices. These same people are also not going to care enough to uninstall one, either. The more companies that start doing this, the less profitable serving insecure and invasive advertising becomes.
This will force more and more advertisers to instead switch back to normal, acceptable, responsible ads.
The amount of people here complaining about a free game is astonishing. Somebody took some time and put forth the effort to produce something. It's nothing amazing, sure, but it's decent fun and brings back memories of the age of classic sidescrolling platformers. It's Linux-themed Super Mario 3. And yet, some people still find reason to complain. Well good thing it's open source, so you assholes can fix it to your liking.
Even the 320 kbps version of Stairway to Heaven comes in at around 8 MB, so I'm not sure how you calculated that 5 songs in.mp3 format takes up 80 MB. It would probably be closer to about 20 regular songs.
I just double-checked a random Judas Priest song (ripped from a CD) in my library. I don't remember exactly which one. It was just shy of 15 MB. I do remember that it was not one of the really long ones, though. Around four minutes.
I actually *did* play it, and the bloat is painful...
If 80MB is painful, how does one such as yourself store music or video files then? That's about five songs in.mp3 format. Seriously, 80 MB is nothing. I think it's been years since I've used any storage medium that could not hold at least 80 MB.
Oh God, a whole 80 MB? The nerve of those developers! How dare they take up so much space?!
For fuck's sake, it's almost 2016. I don't know if you're reading this from your old Apple II or what, but you can get a 1 TB hard drive for easily less than $100 nowadays. Amazing how cheap storage has gotten.
On another note, as probably one of the few people here who actually downloaded and played the game, I can say it is quite fun. Although definitely not as challenging as the original Super Mario Bros., it does add a few new mechanics that are interesting to see.
How about just stop equating your whole childhood to useless material crap? If you really need that old box of Star Wars (or whatever) figurines to feel like a whole and developed person, then I guess this would be an issue.
Seriously? Disney is "buying childhoods"? I know it's popular to think of all big corporations as evil, but come on. Your, apparently super-important, childhood was a memory. That cannot be bought. You don't need all the plastic that makes you feel nostalgic to remember your childhood. Get over it.
If the car is about to crash and has become sophisticated enough to know that X maneuver would result in 5 pedestrian deaths but Y maneuver only kills the driver. Do they make it kill the driver?
I have thought about this as well and have come up with what I believe is the absolute best solution...

Doesn't that very demographic account for 90% of their users? This is like Slashdot banning socially-awkward nerds.
Fox is not merely biased. It's outright lying.
And other news stations don't? Like a local CBS station did right here?

Not dissimilar from Fox News and it's audience.

Look at the graphical difference. This is clearly much smoother and more detailed than anything on the original Nintendo or the Super Nintendo.
For comparison:
A screenshot of SuperTux
A screenshot of Super Mario 3 on NES
Not to mention the fact that SuperTux is much higher resolution, and the music is in actual music formats (.ogg) instead of 8-bit audio.
